Re: In The Real World 2016-04-13
I have a feeling that Nadette may be the victim of bad information.
Yes, Atsali is a predator, but she doesn't go trying to kill people intentionally.
Now, maybe after a few red cards for high sticking, maybe she might not be playing hockey anymore...

Given the attitudes toward sirens in the para community (assuming they are based on fact and not on "not our kind" prejudice), she would seem to be right about "wild" sirens.FreeFlier wrote:I don't see Katherine allowing Atsali to join the field hockey team if there was a risk, and every school I know of requires written parental permission for Now I'm wondering how accurate Nadette's information is . . . does she have it right or not?
Given the coach's crack about mermaids and golf balls, mermaids may not murder and eat sailors, but...

Which reminds me - if the coach who recruited Atsali for field hockey is Coach Gottlieb, she {at least} knows all about Atsali's background.

Predators, eh? How about a team of Hippos, Rhinos, and Cape Buffalo? Vegetarians all, but some of the most dangerous creatures in their lands!

As I pointed out, Predators are considered pretty powerful stick-wielders in middle Tennessee.

Given that the team includes flight-capable players, perhaps paranormal school field hockey has a slightly different definition of "high" in regards to hockey sticks.jwhouk wrote:Now, maybe after a few red cards for high sticking, maybe she might not be playing hockey anymore...

We know what Atsali thought people thought of sirens (sexual predators) and we know that Jesse's mom thought sirens were beneath mermaids . . . beyond that, what do we really know about how people actually view sirens?AnotherFairportfan wrote:Given the attitudes toward sirens in the para community (assuming they are based on fact and not on "not our kind" prejudice), she would seem to be right about "wild" sirens.FreeFlier wrote:I don't see Katherine allowing Atsali to join the field hockey team if there was a risk, and every school I know of requires written parental permission for join any sports team. True, though I didn't think coach's name was Gottlieb . . . I thought that was Jesse or Krystal's last name.AnotherFairportfan wrote:Which reminds me - if the coach who recruited Atsali for field hockey is Coach Gottlieb, she {at least} knows all about Atsali's background.
I'm not sure coach has a name (at this point).
Which actually would argue for them being the same woman. Errr . . . person.

A little research reveals that Coach's name is "Mrs Adler" - which suggests she may be a flyer.

I was getting ready to ask "Huh?" when I thought to run "Adler" through Google Translate. AnotherFairportfan, you have layers beyond most Gainesvillians (although there are a lot of "layers" in Hall County.)AnotherFairportfan wrote:A little research reveals that Coach's name is "Mrs Adler" - which suggests she may be a flyer.

Not just preditors -- Cape buffalo, anyone?

It would point that way . . . I didn't remember her name.AnotherFairportfan wrote:A little research reveals that Coach's name is "Mrs Adler" - which suggests she may be a flyer.

If you asked which animal kills the most people by more-or-less intent, i believe it's cows.Sgt. Howard wrote:MosquitoesFreeFlier wrote:

Moose are right up there, too, considering their relatively-limited range.

Re: In The Real World 2016-04-13
The most common cause of human deaths throughout history (and before) has been disease carried by mosquitoes. Can't quite recall right now, but I think I'd heard/read that the number of deaths by mosquito-delivered illnesses is greater than all other causes combined.
So do your part for humanity, and buy a bug zapper.
I almost automatically tip over anything with water in it that has set for a while. It isn't like an OCD thing, though. It's more of a "I should dump this so mosquitoes have one less place to spawn."
Also, as for herbivores that kill people, did anyone mention hippos? They kill more people than lions do. But that's because the fat bastards are camping in the water.

There is no such thing as a science experiment gone wrong.
Re: In The Real World 2016-04-13
Technically it's the disease, and not the mosquitoes.
I dump standing water too . . . though I used to carefully dump it into the neighbors' fish pond. (Assuming clean water . . . but if it wasn't clean, there likely weren't mosquito larvae in it, either.)
Nobody highlighted to see the answer?
Bambi and cousins . . . in car accidents. Hit a deer, elf or especially a moose and it's going to wind up in your lap. This is generally regarded as a Bad Thing(TM).

Bovines are predators. They've managed to successfully kill all witnesses and eat all of the evidence so far, so most people don't realise their true nature.Grantcmccormick wrote:Not just preditors -- Cape buffalo, anyone?

Garrison Keillor did a great expose about that on A Prairie Home Companion some years ago... The Attack of the Killer Holsteins.Catawampus wrote:Bovines are predators. Their kryptonite turned out to be the fact that they badly needed to be milked regularly.

Yes hitting a deer, moose, elk or even a cow can be a really bad thing. I have never seen though any published statistics on hitting and elf though. Could you provide a link to this information please?FreeFlier wrote:Technically it's the disease, and not the mosquitoes.
