Re: Bad Jokes II
I was a bad boy again today.
My office-mate was complaining about having to [re]invent a network protocol system which was capable of doing high-resolution network packet time measurement. We've had a good one in use here for several years (measuring transit times between servers) but the underlying protocol project has been "deprecated" by management. We have no head-count for maintaining or improving it, and are going to be closing down support and telling its customers to find a different solution. He's one of the abandoned customers.
Dan said that he was going to call the new protocol "Dickens", after the famous quote "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." He also commented that "everything old, is new again".
I told him that his comments reminded me of a little bit of news that was in the science press recently. It turns out that the very same herbs which were found to have been used for ritual purposes by the ancient Egyptians, are still in use for making food today. The Egyptians used certain herbs when doing sacrifices to their goddess of cats, that are used in Germany today to make flavored sausage.
It was the thymes of Bast, it was the thymes of wurst.

^ I don't look in here for how long. And then that's waiting for me.

Re: Bad Jokes II
I have a stomach ache now.
At least they're not using cats in sausage. I hope they're not.

Re: Bad Jokes II
Imagine reading those letters with a heavy southern accent...
Re: Bad Jokes II
If it was a really heavy southern accent, they'd be penguins, not ducks.

Re: Bad Jokes II
OK, so maybe not quite that heavy a southern accent...- Whoa. This is heavy.
= There's that word again. "Heavy." Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?
My only concern/question now, is whether to actually spell it out or not, for anyone else who might not have caught on...

A Roman ruin was found -- a square block, waist high, with two iron rings fastened to either side near the top. On the face was the inscription:
TOTIE
HORS
ESTO
What was it?

An anachronism... possibly a joke by The Doctor.
("To tie horse to" in English, on a Roman ruin, suggests that Ulglossen has been playing around with paradomensional time flows again. Extra points for anyone who can identify that particular reference...)
Re: Bad Jokes II
Yeah - why would a Roman ruin have an inscription in that language?

10 points for movie reference.
(BTW, there is a children's book "C D B!" that is full of those riddles.)

I'd tell y'all a coronavirus joke, but someone will probably spread it around...
