That has been posited somewhere in the strip, I think? The portals could allow the Elder Gods to visit the Library, but not Earth itself?
The portals are capable of letting elder gods into earth past the World Grid so long as they bear no ill will. I think devyn said so. If they don’t pass that test, they can’t get past the Library.
That is how I remember it too.
(And remember that Devyn is
the earth shaker 's niece, so she should know.)

Some links to possibly relevant comics about the world grid:
This one and the next few have Bud introduce Monica to the concept and give a basic description of how it came to be and what it does.
This one and the following have Brandi telling Lily about how she made it and the Library's relation as a gateway through it.
This one and the following show the events as the grid was finally put together.
And then
this one has Devyn mentioning visiting her uncles who live beyond the grid.

"Daylla", surely?
Proof Positive the world is not flat: If it were, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.

In the referenced strip, I think it was Devyn and Abbie?

Considering who Devyn's uncle was, and (possibly) who Abby's relatives might be...
