Michelle Yeoh, eh? Well, I guess that does explain the unexpectedly low budget for special effects!

That looks on poor Nadettes face tells me that they have vastly different definitions of good news from school.

well she could be just a crouching tiger, hidden dragon does though suggest something to hide.Akasha wrote:must be a dragon ... michelle yeoh, that is

Anybody notice the happy little stinkweed didn't stutter once? And she looks more human all the time.
Re: Some Good News 2016-04-26
Nadette's having to deal with the fact her girlfriend can get intensely physical. And not just in a sexual way.
I wonder what the good news is. Given Kath's fury and fears, it can't be that the school is going to let Atsali return to a field hockey team of bevies. Maybe an all pred sports team, fighting against other preds? Woo, talk about carnage!
I'm having a lot of trouble imagining one on a skateboard.

Atsali's been accepted for the Gryphons - the school flight team.

Yeah... it's a bullet. Sorry.

"Cowabunga" suggests that she has just been phoned by the Minotaur (captain of the school bungee-jumping team) and asked to join.DilyV wrote:Cowabunga indeed!AnotherFairportfan wrote:Atsali's been accepted for the Gryphons - the school flight team.

There's a hundred other things she could be.Akasha wrote:must be a dragon ... michelle yeoh, that is
Longma, qilin (also spelled qirin or ki-rin), fenghuang, xiao, nine-tailed fox (forgot the name), winged lion (ditto), one of the various water horses (all of whose names I've forgotten), etc.
EDIT Okay, so the dog with a human face is from Japanese mythology. Not sure what i was thinking of in Chinese mythology (possibly a manticore variation).
DOUBLE EDIT Missed the most obvious one. She could be the earthly manifestation of the celestial tiger; her zodiac sign. I'm not terribly sure how the overlap of Chinese astrology and mythology works, so i could have that last part quite wrong. Some how my roomate and i never really talked astrology.

BTW the only reason I remember fenghuang is because it's fun to say.

I'd still hiss like Cobra Commander if I hadn't gone to it for 3 years in grade school.

The nine-tailed fox is a kitsune (at least the Japanese version is; not sure if there' a Chinese version).
Not all kitsune have nine tails; the number of tails relates to their age and power.

It's almost as though I'm a published author or something. . .jwhouk wrote:...That line there is better than some of the stuff WE write over in the Fan Art section...Catawampus wrote:"Great news! Though that sounds more like something from out of a sitcom or a soap opera.
I remember hearing that she was born in Malaysia, though, so she might be a Malay paranormal rather than a Chinese one. Malay folklore is sort of its own separate thing, with lots of influences from China but more from India.Gyrrakavian wrote:Longma, qilin (also spelled qirin or ki-rin), fenghuang, xiao, nine-tailed fox (forgot the name), winged lion (ditto), one of the various water horses (all of whose names I've forgotten), etc.

According to the wikipedia entry, Michelle Yeoh is ethnic Chinese born in Malaysia.Catawampus wrote:I remember hearing that she was born in Malaysia, though, so she might be a Malay paranormal rather than a Chinese one. Malaysian mythological beings . . . Orang Bunian wouldn't fit "letting loose" . . . bidadari, aka apsari wouldn't fit for the same reason . . . Harimau jadian (weretiger, werejaguar or werepanther) would . . . also possibly a nagi . . .

There is. I used to work with a bunch of Chinese international students at my college's cafeteria, one of whom was my roomate for a bit. We liked to compare notes on cultural similarities and differences around the world, especially language and mythology.AnotherFairportfan wrote:The nine-tailed fox is a kitsune (at least the Japanese version is; not sure if there' a Chinese version).

Yeah, i just re-read Marion G Harmon's "Wearing the Cape" series book #5 Ronin Games, and it makes the point (in fact, some plot points turn on it) that Japanese and Chinese folklore/mythology have a lot in common.Gyrrakavian wrote:There is.
