One must wonder how Atsali got up, rummaged around getting ready and got out of the house thinking she was late without Kath and Pickle knowing. When I'm running late its a constant stream of expletives...

We've seen Atsali react negatively to other people using harsh language. I'd guess that indulging in a "cussing streak" simply isn't her style. We know her middle name isn't "Sydney"!

She may have just looked at the clock, gasped, thrown on clothes, grabbed her books and dashed out of the house towards school without saying anything... maybe even without seeing anyone. She and Pickle may be on different school schedules... not unlikely given their age difference.

Yes... Miss Scoville does have quite the vocabulary, doesn't she? I get the feeling that Atsali's version of cursing would be "Gosh Darnit!!! Golly Gee!!! Oh Poop!"

not quite the same for me, but a few years ago, i got up, dressed, out the door and hit the latte stand on the way to work, got into work uniform, and then couldn't understand why nobody was there for P.T. and actually started the equipment checks for our yard's air compressors, before the night-shift guard saw me and asked what i was doing there... on a SUNDAY!!... arrgh!... i finished the checks as i was about 3/4 of the way thru them anyways, got back to the shop, changed out of my uniform and went home... most of the rest of the yard heard about it the next day when the foreman razzed me about it later...

I seem to recall her cursing taking the form of vegatable quite often; "Brussels Sprouts!" I wouldn't be surprised there was a 'Rutabaga!" in there somewhere...

I'm in favor of just putting everybody on GMT and letting people set their own schedules.
Since they do it anyway, at least the chaos of changing time zones and jerking clocks back and forth twice a year would be eliminated.
It'll never happen though. There are just too many meddlers to contend with.

There's not even really much of a reason for DST anymore anyways with all of the automation in farming now,
so I vote we just get rid of it all together.

I'm not in favor of eliminating time zones and setting all clocks the same, because local time is useful information - and if all clocks worldwide say the same thing, local time doesn't convey that information.

I question whether "daylight saving time" ever really made sense. You can't make a rope longer by cutting off one end and attaching it to the other. Indiana started observing DST in 2005, and found that it costs the state's residents an extra $9 million a year in energy costs. And the change causes all sorts of short-term disruptions, some of which have long-term effects.

Year-round DST? Last time it was tried in the US, the school district I lived in at the time responded by shifting the entire school schedule one hour later in the day - effectively going off DST without changing the clocks. In that part of the country, in winter without DST, kids are catching the school bus just after sunrise, and getting off the school bus at the end of the day shortly after sunset. Whereas with DST, they were catching the bus in the dark and getting off the bus while it was still light. Doesn't sound like much difference... but it is. Kids catching the school bus have to get out there before the bus arrives, and wait beside the road for it. Kids getting home don't have to wait for their houses to arrive, so they immediately get away from the road. It's much better - the district learned by unfortunate example - to have kids waiting beside the road while there's light so drivers can see them.

I heartedly agree with adjusting business and school hours to what amounts to 'Summer Hours' & 'Winter Hours'.

It's the right combination of horse & cart orientation (ie: Horse before the Cart) in that it can draw attention to the change of seasons without seemingly altering reality. ("I don't CARE what the sun position is, today it's now an Hour Later than yesterday!")

Better to bring in folks based on "Look!, New Summer Hours!".

It's bad enough I get crazy looks or sympathy-silence when all cranked up on nighttime light pollution (but you cant see the Stars anymore!...), to quote somebody from something; "it was made by Man, so it can be Unmade...".
