Castela is a very interesting mix of a five-year-old, and something far far older.

I sorta wonder whether we (and everybody) should be scared of what she might become, when she grows up. It's a good thing that she has a loving and supportive extended family.

Maybe she was created using a cutting from a very old plant.

Yes, Pickle sometimes feels like an adult in a child's body. I don't know if this is because of a Schulzian writing decision, or because of plot. I guess if we live long enough we will find out.

I dunno...the image Paul shared with us of Castela when she's older was intriguing...And every bit as worrying as you might fear. :P Good or bad, she'll be an interesting adult.

pickle at this point kinda reminds me of Ronda Rousey, just another geeky nerd girl nothing special till you step into the ring and get your ass handed to you.

My two main nieces, brother's kid who's 7 and sister's who just turned 6, have elements of Pickle. The older one is really smart seeming far older than she is at times, and the other is a chatterbox with a very excellent memory. And they both have that gift of Kid Logic that cuts through the hang-ups the rest up us have added unbidden to day-to-day life.

Remember how they punctuated their argument in the "Katherine's Adventure" storyline?

Much as the food chain is the food chain, I do have to wonder at the long term corrosion to the spirit from feeding off the condemned. Looking at it pragmatically it makes sense, but just as being a law enforcement officer weighs on the spirit after a while might this do the same?

Both? That's got to make it tough to be alone with yourself after a while.

The finding and exonerating of innocents in the process disposing of the bad will probably help with that.

Technically, every life on Earth is billions of years old. It's just the individuality and consciousness in us that gets replaced with each generation. Perhaps sentient blackthorns work differently than we do.
