After looking at it a few times, I'm thinking, yes.

Recycled plastic.

She brought her hand down on the tank, and - BOOSH!

Think of it this way. Imagine that you have a Radio-Controlled car. Maybe, about six inches wide by a foot long. Most people, if they brought down their fist on it, couldn't do more than maybe dent the roof or break the windshield.

From the way it looks, she obliterated the tank.

As in, "Elephant just put its foot down on a kiddie cart" obliterated.

What we're seeing is the sparks from the innards of the toy as her hand crushed the motor inside.

If she did getting it back will be a tankless job for someone.

Note: In the far north on very, very cold days, trees explode there as well. Also considering the sheer number of poisonous plants around it's amazing we ever survived discovering what was safe to eat at all! For example rhubarb stalks are safe but the rest of the plant is not.

I think we are all overlooking a vital point! Namely...

What the <bleep> has Pickle been watching that she comes up with scenarios like THAT? My niece, when she was little, did Sailor Moon and products of her own imagination. Zombies eating soldiers? And driving tanks???

She has a livid imagination.

Also, as noted, she IS part Blackthorn, and DID invoke magic in Corn Husk Maiden's name. Maybe she can channel the power of the gods...

That reminds me of a joke, that generally goes like this (I forget the details...)

Judge: What do you have to say for yourself?
Accused: It wasn't my fault: my hand made me do it!
Judge: Very well, then, I hereby sentence your hand to 10 years in jail.
[The joke may or may not end with the accused taking off a prosthetic arm and handing it over... Like I said, I forget the details...]

Wrong. The rhubarb flowers are also edible. I had it growing wild in my yard back home, and my son's friends Grandpa came over and harvested all of them after they bolted, then helped me dig up and remove over a hundred plants that infested my yard. It was a win-win, I got rid of a nuisance without having to pay for exotic herbicides(that I was informed wouldn't work), he got a very large harvest of veg they all enjoyed.
Having never eaten rhubarb before(being deathly allergic to the one fruit it's always paired with), it was a fun experience. Rather enjoyable, it's got a sharp zing to it, and the way he prepared it, I could see it in a salad with artichoke hearts and fire roasted vegetables.
Yanno how some people have Angels/Devils for a conscience? I have a Dark Elf ShadowKnight and a Half Elf Ranger for mine. The really bad part is when they agree on something.

Or just Blackthorn/Fae?
I thought about that, but if my years of reading/watching science-fiction and/or fantasy has taught me one thing, it's that humans 'hybrid' with other species a more easily than most
Well since there are no Uryuoms in this 'verse, humans are the next alternative.

I was wondering about the Fae thing too. If so she may simply have a miniature version of the tank now.
Also, she has a large toy tank? How many Little girls have one of those in the first place? And how does mom feel about that?

Was it Castela, or was it maybe the Corn husk doll? Do we know the doll was just a simple doll or maybe it might have been imbued with some kind of magic?
You know that light at the end of the tunnel?

Speaking as an old Cold Warrior tank commander, I'd like to think Corn Husk Maiden didn't blow up the tank.
It was the last surviving crewman who planted his thermite grenade in the main gun ammo and pulled the pin.
So you see it really wasn't Castela's fault.

Mom is ex-armed forces, and probably got it from her (adopted) parents or family.

Besides, Castela might just have a tomboyish side. Girls don't have to always be ponies and princesses and pink all over.

She must be a power plant. We already knew that she was a bouncy little dynamo.
GlytchMeister wrote:The only plant I've heard of having any sort of ability to explode is Eucalyptus. They can explode due to their oil, but that happens when they're already on fire.
Fire will make many types of trees explode. Extreme cold will do the same, though usually less violently. So, is this Castela acting all cool and calculating, or in the heat of the moment?
Sgt. Howard wrote:I was always making my toys blow up... but I never did it with my bare hands...
Half of my toys were explosives. The trick was keeping them from blowing up before they were supposed to.

A human/blackthorn hybrid would be the easiest for a human research team to create, simply given the easy availability of the genetic material. If Castela has some other genes in her, such as fae, that raises a question: where did the researchers get the genetic material? I suppose that it all could be a part of either Bia's attempts to make an immortal heir or the nu gui's plans to create a mortal descendant. Also, it seems that certain types of paranormals haven't exactly been all that shy about sharing their genes by a more natural method.

A fae crossbreed might make a good bit of sense, though, in Castela's whole situation of resistance to and power over fae. I wonder if Atsali and Castela will be finding a third sister, in a certain rambunctious young fae gal. . .which might technically make Castela a fae princess, and she's always wanted to be a princess!

I just like the fact that she wears skirts and also plays with toy tanks. I suppose that a Whatsit is naturally resistant to pigeon-holing.

I've been continually amazed, when i read recipes involving chiles, that the authors like to say "Wear gloves, because they may blister your fingers."

I visualise some neolithic type saying "Well, those red fruits that blistered our fingers didn't kill us and taste good in soup - wonder how the greens from this vine with the three pretty glossy leaves would taste ..."

Odd you should say that.

One of my favourite series of commercials of all time were some that Tonka Toys ran for their toy trucks at Christmas several years in the 1970s'

One year they had shots of kids explaining how their new toys from Christmas were broken by Boxing Day or so.

One cute little kid, looking at the camera with absolute sincerity in his guileless little eyes, intoned "A elephant stepped on it."

Next year...

(I recommend watching all of that video; it's set to start at the spot i was referring to, but the rest are great, too. The one with the real VW and the one at the beginning, where we don't get the original "A elephant stepped on it", but we do get other kid explanations, are great. My favourite is the dollhouse.)

I like the ending of that video: "The hard part wasn't to get the truck to stand up under the elephant, it was to get the elephant to stand up on the toy..."
