You need to change the date to 23, not 22...

The senator behind me?
I don't think Nadette is quite Nadette, yet...
And yet she knows and recognizes Atsali as Atsali. Interesting.

What does it say about me, that I knew what strip the link was pointing to, even before confirming by clicking?Thor wrote:Also, this is the 2nd strip to be titled "Listen To Me". The first one is here.

What is with those people. First a uranium mass designed to melt down or blow up. Now this one set up an antimatter bomb. This is beyond overkill, this is all the way to insane!!!!! It depends on the amount of antimatter whether it is a small local blast or it destroys the earth. It is possible the Senator decided to make sure she got the Nu Gui even if it tried to interfere from a distance. So girls it is time to boogie in a hurry!
Ambush questions are fun. Watching the mental impact of them as they distort, or crumble, opinions based on faulty logic.
Re: Listen To Me 2015-02-22
Nadette's hair deflated! hehehe Cute.
Now, about that Anti Matter bomb... if it went off, there would be nothing but a smoking hole where this installation is... and that would have included the installation above it that got melted down. I don't believe the "senator" is dead. If she'd died, she'd have suffered the ravages of time on her body. She looks fresh as the day she entered the tube. If the tube had just been tampered with, killing the senator, the anti matter device would have detonated and there would be a smokin' hole where this installation was. For a race of people that technologically advanced, I can't believe that the detonation of that anti matter device would have been on a timer... it should have been instantaneous. If not... once again, Atsali is racing against time.

Yeah... it's a bullet. Sorry.

Re: Listen To Me 2015-02-23
I'd guess that denotes a really wide-eyed startle reaction, courtesy of that other shoe Nadette dropped.
You know, the one with the spikes?
The "antimatter bomb, probably make the Mapimi meltdown eruption look like a damp firecracker, and oh yes did I forget to mention that it's armed and ticking and we misinterpreted a 'run away really fast' warning signal as a call for help and rushed in where angels would fear to tread" sort of shoe being dropped?
Either Nadette's Seer-ish episode of being overwhelmed by recorded memories hasn't quite passed, or ursamorphs buy their "blase" by the tanker-truck load.

Re: Listen To Me 2015-02-23
Upon re-reading the comic, I am now guessing she is saying that the person in the tube, which is currently behind her, is a senator. So Nadette is not channeling someone being supported by a senator, as I first thought... However, she is still privy to information she should not normally know about, which she saw from her seer faculties.lake_wrangler wrote:The senator behind me?

And she ever so matter-of-factly mentions the anti-matter bomb, set to detonate at any time, now...

Last panel Atsali is freaky... even more so than angry-siren Atsaly, at this point...

Nadette doesn't seem to be running in a panic so maybe they got time? Atsalis eyes look like Buds did when she was accessing the "fail safe program" that were supposedly built in the stargates.

Re: Listen To Me 2015-02-23
"that was the signal we got" could be taken to mean the signal is part of the antimatter bomb countdown [RUN!!!], or it could mean the signal was meant to attract/bring someone to the stasis chamber (so they could set off the antimatter bomb) which means ..... oh *poop*, I've done the same as Nadette and haven't seen the elephant, haven't I?lake_wrangler wrote:And she ever so matter-of-factly mentions the anti-matter bomb, set to detonate at any time, now...![]()
(a) Panel 4 : "In the event of her death or if anyone tampered with it (the stasis tube)
(b) Panel 1: "Besides, she's dead!"
(a) + (b) = we have seen the 'fight' part of Atsali's fight or flight instincts, now perhaps we see how fast she can move (underground) when sufficiently motivated

That or the girls get to play the bomb disarming game

hmmm ... the fractures (in the stasis chamber?) are visible again (behind Nadette in the first panel)

I'm also a little confused with the pattern on the wall(s). Until the last panel of today's page, the wall in the background changes whenever 'we' are looking at Nadette and Atsali.
A visual clue, or just changes on perspective? (one wall has a pattern, one doesn't?)

I think Atsali's "Orphan Annie" vibe is related to the "Antimatter Bomb" that just figuratively got dropped in her lap.

Is it me, or is there a different line style to the artwork?
Also, on the antimatter thing, it could be any size. In fact, a charge larger than one to destroy the tube is unlikely.

Really weird advance team we got here. A emotional teenage Seer, and walking USB drive - also emotional. No wonder the Library needed to keep Wapsiverse's version of the Humanoid Typhoon under watch of her shady daughter. No telling the size of the Ka-Boom she would have triggered.

If Nadette was correct and the antimatter bomb was intended to kill the Nu Gui the bomb is probably a tad larger than one needed to just destroy the tube.
Considering the Nu Gui was in Brandi, and as a golem Bandi should be somewhat resistant to damage, I wonder how large an antimatter bomb would need to be?

(unless antimatter explosions are 100% kills against Nu Gui's regardless of who's body they are inhabiting and how little damage they would take from the explosion?)

Maybe the Library is a fan of Manga? A team of teenagers will succeed where a team of adults fails nine times out of tenkingklash wrote:Really weird advance team we got here. Now, if the Library was to send Castela and some of her classmates on a mission, you know things are serious

Re: Listen To Me 2015-02-23
Okay... just doing a little research on matter/antimatter collisions I found this:
1kg of antimatter will annihilate 1kg of matter and release 2c 2 (2c squared where c=constant) =1.8×10 17 (1.8 times 10 to the 17th power) joules of energy. To put this in perspective, this is enough energy to melt about 10 11 (10 to the 11th power) kg of granite. For comparison the weight of Mount Everest is about 10 15 kg (10 to the 15th power), so it wouldn't cause wholesale melting of the Earth. In fact the energy of the meteor that killed the dinosaurs is estimated at 4×10 23 joules (4 times 10 to the 23 power), so while I wouldn't want to be near the antimatter when it annihilated, it's unlikely to wipe out all life on Earth.
This being said, simply put, while the resulting matter annihilation and energy release might not totally destroy the planet, the energy release from just 2.2 pounds (1 kg) of antimatter reacting with an equal amount of matter would put a dent in the planet the size of mount Everest or damn near it. Depending on the propagation of the reaction and the type of energy release (heat, blast and radiation) a reaction that big would probably knock the planet off axis, alter its orbit and otherwise contaminate the atmosphere with fall out magnitudes worse than the meteor collision that killed the dinosaurs.
NOW you see why Atsali is almost in TILT mode.

But all that was said is "anti-matter bomb", with no indication of how large the reaction mass (anti-mass?) is. It might be just a pinhead of anti-matter. We don't know. All we know is that "anti-matter bomb" sure sounds scary.DilyV wrote:Okay... just doing a little research on matter/antimatter collisions I found this:

Re: Listen To Me 2015-02-23
The easiest way to do it would be to put a kilo of antimatter in the stasis field. long as she lives the magnetic field is good. she dies, it waits for the field to collapse. When it collapses as soon as air or anything else hit it, boom. no need for a timer no need for anything. well there would be a major need for an exit stage left

Nadette: "How should I know? I'm not on the bomb squad!"
