Thanks guys! This keeps the forum nice and neat.
I called it!!! The entry way further into somewhere is in the hourglass.
They are at the lower end of the spider and it exactly looks like the one on the vase. Didn't expect the whole place to collapse that way though. MIB eyes in the sky can see this easily. Expect visitors soon,

@DilyV, if you can edit the thread title, the date should go after the name
I don't think I can edit the title...
Should be able to. Edit your first posting of the day, change the Subject field, and submit the change. That will change the thread listing; the change will be picked up by anyone who hits the Reply button.

Okay, I have to admit, based on the artwork in the previous strips, I never saw this particular situation coming... some of the panels clearly showed the rockfall had buried them in the alcove
after
things stopped falling. I find it odd there is absolutely none of the rubble on the ledge left hanging from the side of the crater wall. Aren't mesas formed from volcanic structures that flatten out due to wind action and time? If so... I hope Kath doesn't have the same luck as Monica and Jin...
Oh, and Kath? that ledge can't be too stable... I wouldn't dally there for very much longer...

Suspect the mine cart only started the reaction. As to what it is. Haven't you heard of trapdoor spiders?? A big hole covered up with a spider hiding under it?? A hole that size needs a really big spider.
Don't have to fix the hole. Claim it was there when you moved in.

And once again, I have to sing. In the immortal words of Riff Raff:
Leo G. Caroll, was over a barrel
When Tar-an-tu-la took to the hills...
I just knew the one they burned at the end of the movie wasn't the only one...

Yeah, the old rule about taking a photo inventory of the house/apartment when you first move in, to avoid disputes about damage when you move out, is a bit shaky in today's Photoshop/GIMP world. Almost anybody can add a convincing flying-mine-cart hole to the "before" photos nowadays...
Atsali should be sat down with some Spiderman comics when she gets back to the Bibliothiki. (It occurs to me that Phix's collection has all the comics. Lucky girl.)
And it doesn't look as if they'll have more trouble than usual climbing up the recessed figure, either. The question is what they find inside.
Suddenly realized something: kat's a specialist in old clothing and fibers, weaving and such.... What is a material that's used very often in clothing of very wealthy ancient people?
The fact that it's a caterpillar that produces silk, doesn't change the fact that it's still silk... as in s.....silk. In Kat's passion lies another hint, planted years before.....
I could be grasping here. though.
Mebbe someone else already made that link. I might have missed it.

A mesa results from an upthrust of harder rock is inside a layer of softer rock. Over time the softer rock wears away leaving the harder rock. It can be volcanic but the strata shown it the picture makes me doubt it. The large lava beds in that area are further south. The ledge they are on should be stable. It was part of the floors over the building. If the collapse didn't bring them down they should be good for awhile. Besides they have to last long enough for them to climb those conveniently left stairs to get to the center of the spider.

Which ALSO means that Phix has those godawfully bad Marvel Star Wars comics lying around. I mean the reál stinkers, before Darkhorse took over the franchise. Not to mention all other tv/film related comics, that are invariably really, heartwrenchingly bad. The kind well-meaning grand-parents gave as birthday gifts.

Holee Frijoles! A pretty deep hole to say the least. I wonder how much further down it goes. It's about time Atsali put those wings to use again in flying them up to the surface or the hole in the hourglass (if that's what it is). The other things on the body look like shelves. Maybe where the dolls were placed? They seem a bit too oddly placed to be hand holds or places for people to stand.
OTOH, the place they want to go may be down towards the bottom. Who knows. If the spider was protecting something under it, like on the pot, then that something may be further down.
Looks like we're leading up to the birth of yet another protector. We'll have quite a superhero team by the time it's all finished; all guardians of one sort or another. Super(natural) team count off! ... Monica! Fire! ... Shelly! Force! ... Kath! Shield! ... Nudge! uhh ... Comic Relief! NUDGE! For the last time! Comedy is not a super power! And get rid of that silly cape. The window looks lopsided with half of the drapes missing.
