Oh, fun! You might end up with a dog who thinks they're a cat. Which can be amusing.

As things turned out, my brother's father in law backed down, and my brother and his family won't be moving in with me after all, which means no help with housework or bills. So it looks like I'll have to win the lottery if I want to breathe easy, because it'd take an act of God for me to get married.

I was on my way home from work, and right after I got gas and food, I had turned to take a road I normally always take. There is a hill maybe a quarter mile from the intersection, and you can't see anything past the hill until you're on the top of it.

Right when I crested the hill, all of this happened in the span of maybe three seconds:

I saw a pick-up truck with a trailer partially in the ditch on the right side of the road, I saw vehicles that had been ahead of me sliding all over the place after passing it, I saw several people standing around the area, and I saw a police vehicle stopped in the way, and then I saw the ditch on the right (past the truck) was clear. In maybe the third or fourth second, I had made it to the ditch and knew I wouldn't be able to stop there, and managed to aim my car away from a light pole.

I hit a fence, and the light pole hit the rear driver's side door of my car, and I came to rest in the ditch just past the pole. I didn't even spill my drink.

It turns out that the reason the police were there was because my sister's oldest had just rolled her car trying to avoid that same damn truck an hour before, and the police had arrived about a minute before I did.

No injuries to anyone, but my car is definitely totaled (side airbags deployed). The driver of the truck? Not even present. Just left his truck.

My sister took a picture of the guy's plate. We may be able to sue him. Why? Because his vehicle was partially in the road, and caused more than one accident.

Whoa. Way too exciting, and glad you're all okay.

My mom had a preternatural ability to attract destruction upon self-propelled machinery, but never was injured, in at least 5 car wrecks. I've had some fun myself; only injured once. My niece has it so strong, she's had two cars totaled while they were parked on the street with no one on board!

May your juju continue to protect! 🌞

"Protect," my ass. This situation put me in a pretty tough spot.

Because I had taken my vacation the week before my.wreck, I was out of time off and had to put in for a leave of absence, which is unpaid. And unfortunately, the minimum amount of time I can take for that is 15 days. Money is already tight, and I likely won't be getting much on my tax refund, if I get one at all.

I was going to pick up extra shifts for this week, but I clearly can't do that now. Once I do get back to work, though, I'm going to have to take as many extra shifts as I can for a good while.

I'm almost in the clear. I think, given another month, I'll be back on my feet, financially speaking. I've been borrowing my brother's truck, and he lent me some gas money, as I'm almost broke thanks to the rent.

I may need his help again in the near future, as I have to pay the (late) electric bill and buy a new phone, as I broke mine last night. The storms made it really difficult to get home, as there were several places where trees had fallen across several roads, taking the power lines with them (my power was out). Later, I was trying to look up something on my phone, which showed that I had signal... but it kept refusing to pull up anything, saying there was no connection while I was trying to use the browser. As I've been getting really frustrated over the past few months, I ended up flinging my phone across the room, and it broke the screen.

I also have insurance due on the 15th, and that's what I'll need my brother's help to pay.

I'm probably about to lose my job. Back on 10/22, they sent everyone home just before 5:30, and the site was closed for 72 hours so that a building evaluation could be done. We got paid for that time. However, 48 hours into that, a message was sent out, saying that the building would be closed until 11/8 so repairs could be made, and again, we'd gotten paid for that time. Apparently, the structural engineering firm made a mistake during the design phase, and the building was not up to code.

Then on the 7th, they sent out another message, saying the site would be closed until the 21st, because the designers hadn't accounted for the rare seismic event. Still got paid for it.

Then, on the 20th, they sent out yet another message. This time, the building was being closed indefinitely, and everyone would be getting another 90 days of pay, and we still had the option to transfer to another building, which I put in to do.

However, on Saturday, they deducted an entire shift's worth of unpaid time, EVEN THOUGH THE BUILDING WAS CLOSED. I called HR to get it fixed, and I was told the changes were put into the system, and it should update with 24 hours... but here we are, almost 60 hours after I made that call, and the issue hasn't been fixed. So I'm likely to wind up losing all of my UPT, and after that's gone, if I'm not able to get back into a positive balance (I'd have to somehow clock in and work an hour to get 5 minutes of unpaid time off) within a certain time, which I can't do when the building is closed, my employment is terminated.

Hopefully, the company is smart enough to recognize a special situation and suspend certain normal rules and procedures.

The catch is that some of those rules and procedures will be automated, and others will be applied even though they shouldn't. Glitches will happen, and take unusual interventions to straighten out.

And the company might take a few tries to identify *all* the rules and procedures which should be suspended.
