Well, to get the full story you'd have to (at least) read from there, until now.WilliamCA wrote:Thanks but it doesn't explain who or what she is other then she's some kind of vampire.Atomic wrote:Starts Here.WilliamCA wrote:Can someone explain who Lily is. I have no idea whats going on and where she has been etc.
To sum it up, though: (and this contains SPOILERS for anyone who hasn't read through, so if you don't want your experience spoiled, stop reading now!)
So: Lily is a vampire. Like other Wapsiverse vampires, she became one due the way she died... alone, forgotten, and without hope. Wapsiverse vampirism apparently does not involve an "infectious bite", as is often portrayed in our fiction.
Her death-and-undead-resurrection took place about 5000 years ago. She's been around a long time.
Lily is a surviver (sort of) of the Ethetian civilization - and the Ethetians were a New World civilization which was, itself, a set of survivors from the Lanthian disaster more than 10,000 years ago.
Lily, and all the other Ethetians alive at the time, were tricked into going into a form of electronic stasis as a way of avoiding a (not-so-natural) disaster. Rather than being revived after the environment settled back down, most of the Ethetians were left in stasis (suspended but aware) to go slowly mad. A different but equally nasty thing was done to pregnant Ethetian women - their unborn babies were brought out of stasis in the middle of the oceans (to immediately drown) and the women were brought out of stasis in the middle of various deserts (to die without hope). That's how Lily died.
Something even quirkier happened in Lily's case. A few Ethetian women were pregnant with twins or triplets (or more). Lily was one such... she would have had quadruplets. The stasis system wasn't properly programmed to handle more than three unborn children... three of them ended up in stasis normally (and were eventually drowned), while Lily's fourth unborn child (a girl) was routed into a stasis crystal along with the fourth unborn children of *five* other Ethetian women. This six-fold "combined child" was not, for as-yet-unknown reasons, drowned at sea... instead, she was left in a stasis crystal until a few decades ago, when the crystal was discovered by an expedition of the Men In Black. The child was revived from stasis and raised to adulthood (presumably by foster parents arranged by the MIB).
That six-in-one timeshifted, orphaned child (a chimera of some sort) is now the woman we know as Katherine Gilchrist... Castela and Atsali's adoptive mother.
So, Lily is Katherine's mother, or one of her mothers. As far as we know, Kath's other five maternal contributors are all fully dead, as of about 5000 years ago... but that might not be the case.
That's part of why Lily is so broken up right now, it seems. She has the memory of three unborn children who were murdered... and her fourth unborn child was taken away, and became part of a composite individual (Kath) of whom Lily was quite unaware until very recently. Her past is a painful one, and recent events have added salt, vinegar, and barbed wire, and then thrown her past right into her face.
Can Paul Taylor spin a yarn, or what?
