And even so, she was able to put all the pieces in place to solve the Calendar Machine problem.

Jin is looking at this wrong. The key word is not 'mentor' but rather 'manipulate'. Jin is very good at manipulating people. What she wants to do is manipulate Atsali into being a more confident, less vulnerable, capable person. That will actually have the same effect as mentoring, but will use tools Jin already knows. If she approaches it from THAT angle, she'll be more confidant and 'Sali will probably make better progress.

Does Pickle need mentoring? She seems pretty together. And not just physically.

Nadette might need a hand learning what to do when someone you really really like isn't interested in you... :(

Be afraid. Be very afraid. Be extra very afraid.

Phix - Shelly (of course)
Monica - Calista
Jin - Atsali
Bud - Castela?
Brandi - Berdine?
Nudge - Nadette?

Atsali needs to meet Euryale. She matchs both Sali and M in the chest department, seems very confidant and has a bubbly personality. Shes a hugger to. She can bless your heart with the best of them.

She's only 5 (or maybe 6?) at the moment, there will be many opportunities to mentor her as she grows up a mobile and sentient plant in a world ruled by animals.

Speaking of whom, when will we get back to them?

"Bless your heart" is okay.

But I once read that "bless his/her heart" is US Southern for "what an idiot". And my sister-in-law in Alabama agreed.

Rofl, "bless your heart" is directing it towards you specifically instead of someone else or someone in general. I am southern and from Alabama not that it matters.

sounds like a bad way to mangle meanings... In UK english at least "bless your heart" means "you are being a very nice person, thank you with all my love".. only a person with NO feelings and NO heart would say otherwise...
and you military men may do this but they also say 'there is something in my eye' (they do not want to seem 'weak' in front of their male friends 'cos they are crying at some soppy movie or whatever....

Molly Ivins was a master of the "Bless his heart" bit - talking about Bush Minor, for instance.

It's the emphasis on the last word that makes it.

"Bless his heart, he can't help it..."

Yeah... I think it means "Well, at least his intentions are good," with the implication that even those good-hearted intentions don't keep him/her from creating a real Charlie-Foxtrot every time.

Not so long ago there was a radio commercial that aired here that explained the phrase "well bless your heart" really meant "you stupid *beep*". It ended with the announcer saying something along the lines of "So if you're not saving money with (whatever the commercial was for), well bless your heart".

Its all in the tone the delivery and the intention of use. Sarcasm is real big in the South.

Well that sounds like its an expression of surprise, actually... An African girl I know used to say it!! :D the advertiser must have 'twisted' it... NEVER trust ad men.... :o

oldmanmickey nailed it. It's all about the delivery. It can be an innocent expression but delivered sarcastically can be used as an insult. The advertiser didn't invent any new meaning, just used it in the second manner which was obvious if you got to hear it for yourself.

Out here in the DFW area it's a mortgage service advising people to "stop making the landlord richer".
