What was that quote about not being paranoid, if someone really is after you? It would seem to apply to Monica rather nicely, at this point...
So Monica's right about being targeted, but is wrong about the identity of the targeter...
And Atsali didn't mention anything earlier because... They're not supposed to speak of such things in "mixed" company? But Monica is a para, now, so Atsali could have spilled the beans...
[Edit: link added, and phrase reworded]

Atsali made a mistake a lot of people make, she assumed everyone knows that.

Nkt sure i'm exactly happy with how this is going.

Monica: So, you say you've figured out who it is, that's been blowing an icy wind down the back of my neck for all these years?
Atsali: Elemental-ly, my dear Monica!

It's odd, though. Jin hates snow even more than Monica, and yet I don't recall her getting hit with sudden snow bursts.
Maybe the elementals were afraid Jin might be able to retaliate...

you need to check the archive..
Jin does not hate snow, just the things she hallucinates... and the BF thinks she is shouting at the snow...

and monica DOES like snow, when it is the **proper time** for it!!!

Actually, Jin does yell at the snow - the page where she heats her hand in the fire to warm her butt.

I wonder where Atsali learned about weather elementals? Was it in school, or through her own extensive "adventure reading" in the Library, or somewhere else?oldmanmickey wrote:Atsali made a mistake a lot of people make, she assumed everyone knows that.
In any case, the fact that Monica didn't know about weather elementals, despite her own awareness that snowy weather has had it in for her for years, is a bit curious. Despite her high-power sub-Titan status and her connections, there seems to be a fair bit that she hadn't learned yet.
I wonder whether there's the para equivalent of an adult Continuing Education program that she could participate in?

Well, weather is driven by temperature and pressure differentials in our universe, caused by the heating from the sun. I guess the physics are a bit different in the Wapsiverse.
I ride my bike to ride my bike, and sometimes it takes me where I need to go.
Re: Jumped In Sooner 2016-09-13
Might be different, might be the same. Remember the "butterfly effect"... small changes in one area can, in theory, have a cascading and rather chaotic effect in distant parts of the system at a later time.Opus the Poet wrote:Well, weather is driven by temperature and pressure differentials in our universe, caused by the heating from the sun. Human technology isn't up to calculating or predicting the effects of such small changes. It could be that elementals can, though. They might be able to figure out how to make a small temperature change in one place (something as simple as laying down a white or black cloth to change the albedo of a small area), changing local air circulation a bit, and (via the butterfly effect) changing the course of a snowstorm in Minneapolis months or years later.
Predicting just where Monica would be walking at that moment, months or years in advance... now that would be tricky, too!

We've seen lots of physics-defying stuff done by the paras in general, especially in the shape-change and hammerspace departments, and the Library doesn't actually exist "here".Dave wrote:Might be different, might be the same. The paras seem to tap into an entirely different level of "universe" than the rest of us. It still follows rules but is, at least for now, quite beyond us.
Although the butterfly effect could be one possible solution, other more direct methods are more likely.
Maybe "Mother Nature" and "The Jaguar Girl" have a long-running feud or maybe just a playful snow ball fight in progress (over the course of how long?).

Despite her own power level, Monica has problems accepting a lot of the paranormal.Dave wrote:Despige her high-power sub-Titan status and her connections, there seems to be a fair bit that she hadn't learned yet.

Remember, Bud had to rip her heart out in order to convince her of her phoenix traits.

Nadette is freaked... being a bear and insulting the elementals isn't a good thing...
You know that light at the end of the tunnel?
Yeah... it's a bullet. Sorry.

Atsali may be only half of Monica's age, but has spent her whole life raised within the paranormal community. Monica's only fairly recently been fully immersed in the paranormal, and has tended to resist much of the time. Monica has a lot of catching up to do. Maybe she can just spend half an hour each day letting Atsali prattle on at her and pick up on para pop culture that way.Dave wrote:Despite her high-power sub-Titan status and her connections, there seems to be a fair bit that she hadn't learned yet.

And Alan's response . . .
Many cultures consider the schizophrenic touched by god . . . maybe elementals are such.
