The thing that really seems weird to me are the people who turn the rear windows of their automobiles into shrines to their deceased loved ones. All over the place now I'm seeing cars with big decals across the window reading, "IN LOVING MEMORY OF BILLY-BOB JETHRO SMITH XXIV, 1952-2013" or whatever. Yes, that's just how I want to be immortalised: on the rear window of a beat-up Nissan Sentra.

It's almost as much fun as "chemical free".

Cocaine comes from Erythroxylum coca, while cocoa and chocolate come from Theobroma cacao.
Though it's debatable as to which is the most addictive. . .

Ott makes an interesting case for the proposition that chocolate (although distinctly addictive due to the theobromine) is actually a healthier food to consume than carob. More nutrients, less sugar. I don't know how he'd rank cocaine... probably poorly as it's low in B vitamins.

Besides, there's the hazard involved. According to Sylvia, numerous people have bitten down into carob brownies (mistaking them for chocolate), gone into coughing fits of disgust, and suffocated themselves on the carob crumbs. ;)

Road apples and meadow muffins are heavily processed dirt... processed through some grass and then through a horse.

Actually the majority of a plant's biomass comes from the air. This is why big trees don't have large depressions in the ground around them.

There was, I think, a Veritasium video on this subject...

I wanted to wait until someone had time to figure it out a little, which Hansontoons and Warrl obviously did...

I'm not sure the term "road apples" is actually used, in English. It is a literal translation of the term "pomme de route", which is pretty much what he said... horse droppings on the road.

Interesting.. I always wondered if PN-H coined that one.

Road apples? Bleagh, that's for the birds.
Trivia! Disdaining something as being 'for the birds'?
Often horse droppings would have a bit of undigested grain that went straight on through. Birds would peck at them to get it. That's one story of the phrase's origin, anyway.

What's the word for when you're bored with everything? Like, anything you think of doing, and you think "Meh... Whatever..."

I'd been feeling that for the past few days. Problem is, I really want to do something. I kind of want to create something (like get my lazy ass to work on the science fiction I'd been working on for a while). But, every time I get up to do so...

Meh... Whatever...
There is no such thing as a science experiment gone wrong.

"Ennui".

Or, if it's badly dark or darkly bad, "clinically depressed".

I had the latter variety for a while. Got into counseling and got on meds. I eventually forced myself to start doing stuff I used to enjoy. After a while the fire rekindled. I was released from counseling not long after and I've been off antidepressants for quite some time.

Writing is one of those things. It literally keeps me sane. :)

Shortly after my ex was hired at the pit where we met, I noticed some product on her desk, prominently labeled "Contains no chemicals."

At the time, it was the kind of place where we all passed notes about the copy we were proofreading, so I left her a note: "This is bullshit. All matter is chemical by definition."

Somehow we still ended up together, but she eventually thought better of it.
