"Whew, that was a fun little fight," I remarked after the last drug-truck guard had been dispatched. "Hey, Bub, toss me a water, will ya?" I went to wipe my eyes and forehead with my sleeve, and, not quite being used to the new vambraces, slammed the rebar tight into my nose.

My wife knit a Kevlar sleeve to fit over the metal on the ones I made, which made them a tad more comfortable and a bit less damaging to equipment and whatnot that they bumped and scraped against. Plus a lot quieter when sneaking around. It also proved useful when I got thermite grenade all over my arm.

The bonyard is your friend. Put on some old crappy jeans, a ratty shirt, and pack some socket wrenches (Usually 8, 11, and 13 mm were used on my FrankenStratus), a crescent wrench, a knife (for cutting hoses when the clamp refuses to let go), a screwdriver (preferably with interchangeable heads), needlenose and normal pliers, and safety goggles (for when you disconnect the A/C).

Time to get your Dr. Frankenstein groove on!

Rebar Vambraces? You scare me sometimes.

More compact than a shield, cheap to make, and I can find Rebar lying around all over the place. It's just three bits of rebar strapped to my outer forearms.

I dunno about you, but I was always taught how to use my forearms offensively. It's not just a block, it's a strike to the inside forearm of his swing. Without any accessories, you rotate your wrist so your bone strikes edge-on. With such an accessory... it is much easier.

I once had a piece of bracers which were leather that had a quarter inch steel bar sandwiched between 'em. They looked like leather... they stopped a knife pretty damn easily. Idiot didn't have a chance to realize the error of his mistake, as I slid in inside and popped him precisely in the temple and gave him a good nap to sleep off his aggression.

Also, you use your forearms aggressively by something similar to a b**ch-slap, only hitting with the forearm rather than the back of the hand. Tuck your arm in close, drop to low stance, shift forward while forearm extends into floating rib. Good times.

My formal training was in Shotokan. Forearm blocks... Well, I never thought of them as offensive, but I was taught not to block softly. Smack the punch off-target, don't just push.
It was never really conveyed as "also offensive." Merely "hey, it also kinda hurts them, by the way"

Up at the mountain with my brother. He's in the bed of the truck, I'm in the cab.

We got up here at about 11:30PM. After our initial prep, we stopped by where the first hog stick is anchored. Essentially, a length of pvc pipe with holes in it, filled with corn. They push it around, it drops food.

Damn thing is GONE. But it's also right next to a trail camera.

At the trap, the fence above the hog panel that serves as the door was bent way out of shape. We baited the trap, fixed the door as best we could, then went back to the truck and baited the area.

On the way to the trap, we found fresh tracks. Bear tracks, heading away from the direction we were going, and a little farther, we found bear crap. According to my brother, it was soft. I saw it before he did, and I tried to warn him, but he stepped in a big pile of bear poo.

So, yes, veritable proof that bears DO crap in the woods.

Also, I saw three meteorites burn up in the atmosphere. All going in different directions.

That's a problem that I run across more often than I'm happy about. People will playfully swipe at me, I'll reflexively block, then they'll end up with a badly bruised arm that they have trouble using for the next half hour or so. And some people's learning curves show an amazingly strong predilection for the x-axis, even when they've seen it happen and I've warned them not to do things such as that around me.
