Yeah, Lacrosse is a Native American sport, while field hockey derives from hurling.

LAX is more the male sport, where field hockey is seen as a female sport.

Considering that she was up against mostly bronies (apparently, I'm spelling that right, and autocorkboard recognized it) in the store, that was an impressive feat.

Bet none of them could have kicked Tsillah's mother's head off, though.

So field hockey and Lacrosse are two different sports?

In field hockey, the stick vaguely resembles a hockey stick (except that the curved end is not flat), and the ball mostly stays low to the ground.

In Lacrosse, the sticks have a net pocket at the end, to catch, hold, and throw the ball. The ball spends much more time in the air than with field hockey. (As far as I know...)

The pads cut down a lot on external injuries, yes, and they also reduce internal injuries... To a point. It's not like they aren't at risk for grevious bodily harm.

Three words: Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.

The Romans had their gladiatorial battles, during which the losers were slaughtered for the pleasure of the rotating crowd. The Mayans had ōllamaliztli, the ball game where the games often involved explicit human sacrifice (decapitation of the losing players... and, according to some interpretations, sometimes the ritual decapitation of the captain of the winning team!)

Now, with modern American football, we wait to cut open the skulls of the players, until after they have died "naturally" (or of suicide) as a result of the brain injuries they received doing battle on the field of play.

We are, after all, modern and civilized.

Well, this certainly puts all kinds of new depth to her character. Before, any violence was a result of self-defense and instinct... Now we find out she is capable of instigating it... And apparently is rather good at it too!

I am reminded of the story of a college freshman that was approached by the basketball coach during registration. The Coach approached him and said
"you should try out for the basketball team"
"uh thanks, but I don't think my free throws are good enough"
" That's OK, we can teach you how to free throw"
"Well to be honest, I can't dribble or pass that good either"
"That's OK, we can teach that too"
"Well, I'm not that good at. . ."
"Look son, we can teach you all of that, but the one thing we cannot teach is how to be 6' 10" tall"

Point being, if you have the physical ability, you can be be taught the rest. Especially if you already have demonstrated the determination to win, as in Atsali's case.

As far as Nadette's feargasam goes, this is the first time she has seen Atsali's fighting spirit. We the audience have seen her kick ass on several occasions. The thoughts going through Nadette's mind are probably along the lines of "Note to self, never make her angry . . ."

Hmmm. Spirit aside: had Nadette ever seen Atsali's fighting form?

She's seen Atsali's full-sized "winged raptor" morph during the missile incident... in fact she body-suited her. But, I can't recall her ever seeing Atsali when the lass had taken on her warbird aspect... the whole "fangs, claws, wings, face markings, and expression of pure murderous rage" combination. That would put quite a scare into anybody (except Pickle).

Possibly including bronies. I wonder what the store's security cameras might show of that incident?

Field Hockey- equal parts of ice hockey, soccer, rugby and demolition derby. Remarkable casualty rate. The few times I witnesses a women's field hockey match convinced me that women should NOT be front- line combatants in time of war-

We have a little sledgehammer at work. We call it "The Motivator." We mainly use it to pound metal poles through the cardboard in the baler so the tiewires can get through, though on occasion I have had to use it to pound the roller line back into shape and at one point woken up a sleeping coworker (smacked the table right in front of their face... The look on their face was priceless).
