80 lb Weimaraner, I've posted pix of her.AnotherFairportfan wrote:Not sure what Jasper is, or how big - i'm sure you've said and i missed it or forgot - but the "trained not to leave the yard" says "dog" to me.
No matter how big, i'd say Jasper is lucky those weren't domestic or Canada geese - they don't back off and they are, shall we say, dangerous.
I remember, the last time i was in London, walking through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. For most of the walk, squirrels and pigeons were practically grabbing me by the shirtfront and going "Are ya gonna hand over the goodies, or do we have to muss ya up?"
And then, suddenly - no squirrels, no pigeons.
And then i saw - geese in the Round Pond.
NOT tolerant of others in their territory.
These geese are not aggressive. They are not as large as other geese, more the size of a large duck. I think they just bother people with their noise. They like to stand on rooftops and in trees. I was walking J early one morning and saw a lady in a bathrobe standing in her yard, arms crossed and looking at her roof. On top of the chimney were two of these geese squawking noisily. She turned to me and asked if I had any idea how to make them go away. Their noise was coming down the chimney and had woken her and her husband. I replied with a remark along the lines of nothing legal and wished her luck.

Man, it sucks there's no more Mythbusters. Granted, there's reruns, and a lot of episodes I haven't seen before, but that isn't the same.

... hmmm... sounds promising... are they still at it? Y'know, Glytch I bet WE could make a functional submarine ... start with the basic design of the Hunley, but upgrade the ballast system... Al, you there?... and we could actually get that snorkel system to work without TOO much trouble...AnotherFairportfan wrote:That was Rocket City Rednecks.Sgt. Re: More Stuff
The end of MythBusters was a major day of mourning for me...
A submarine? Pshhh. Cakewalk.
Now, a submarine that can stay underwater for eternity? That's more challenging... But possible. Set anchor and use wave, current, and tidal motion to generate power to run synthetic sunlight lamps. That will provide enough energy input to run a full ecosystem. Water cycle, nitrogen cycle, O2/CO2 cycle, etc.
Complicated, yes... But it will allow for an unprecedented level of undersea exploration and will pave the way for permanent space colonies and underwater cities. The military strategic implications of having a permanently submerged city are immense... Imagine a mobile hub for submarine warships that can go anywhere in the ocean with deep enough water and enough fluid motion to run the generators.

So that's how super villains power their underwater bases.
That would be pretty cool to do, though. There isn't enough undersea exploration. We have better maps of the moon and Mars than we do of Earth.

I used to hunt them with a sharpened stick. Which generally involved a whole lot of running and jumping.Alkarii wrote:Nah, we'll be using shotguns and rifles. Plus, we're gonna trap them, and shot them at close range.
Apparently in Arkansas, you can do whatever you want to kill the pigs. Some use explosives.
Modifying an anti-tank mine into an anti-boar mine was also rather effective, if a tad noisy.

I could put out some pig spikes, or set up a mechanical ambush, but I don't want to have to put up a bunch of signs to let trespassers know what's in the area.
Granted, if one had an accident out there, I wouldn't know, since the pigs would eat them.

Shredded, cooked, blown-across-the-clearing pork... that they can make.

I think it refers to how many Gs the pork pulled while flying through the air.

So that's how that word is spelled... Yeah, my brother showed me a video of that. I'd rather not have to put up with that squealing.
Also, on an unrelated note, I may have an ingrown nose hair. Hurts a bit, and I can't quite identify which one it is.
