Thing is, he is very very protective - to the point of severity - about his work. You can't even think about putting up a YT cover of one of his songs without him putting in a challenge of copyright infringement.

and believe it or not that's a GOOD THING... because then if somebody DOES blatantly try to use it, he has precedence in the courts as having the paperwork for him stopping others, and that the judge will most likely rule in his favor... but... if he DIDN'T go after people the judge would say that since he let others "get away with it" what's so different about THIS case, and rule AGAINST him...

just to make sure, we ARE talking about Prince, right? he's the only guy i know of that did the whole "formerly known as" thing... and from what i understand, that was pretty much only to get some weasel room for producing an album that his then-current contract would not allow to be produced... under THAT stage name... change the name, Poof! the contract was non-applicable any more to anything he did under the new name, and thus he could release the music HE wanted, the WAY he wanted it... then i think he waited for that contract to expire and he ?changed back to Prince? or is he still using that unpronounceable symbol-thing for a name?

Last I heard when the contract expired The Purple One went back to his original stage name.
