It really was a lot of fun! I would suggest others making the same sort of meets with nearby Wapsi fans. Stories were told, arts were shared, a good time was had by all. Shadow designed and printed a way cool poster for everyone what attended, I'll stretch it out and take a picture soon. To top it all off, Julie Hugs® all 'round at the finish!

Howard, Gregory F.- Sergeant- Malott, Washington State. Roughly on-third the width of the state from the Idaho border, about one hour south of the Canadian border. Can host in good weather. Might even arrange for some trigger time at local range if you're interested- I have a few pieces of hardware to choose from and plenty of ammo. I HIGHLY recommend the 1740 Queen Anne Flintlocks just for the novelty of it- I've owned slingshots more accurate and powerful... and reliable. Or the selection of WWII turnbolts- or the 1860 Henry repop in 44-40. And then there's BBQ time- man-oh-man, you will NOT walk away hungry! Or go power biking- 50cc motors pushing a beach cruiser bicycle. Perfectly legal here. Do it over the 4rth of July and I will do pyrotechnics the likes of which you typically do not see.

I'm in the Silicon Valley area, just north of San Jose. Would be willing to drive for 2-3 hours in any direction as long as it's on a weekend... that might be anywhere from Santa Rosa, to the Napa Valley area, to the Sacramento area, south to Monterey or perhaps even San Luis Obispo.

I've got two daughters, a niece and several friends there- A wapsicon in SanJo is not without appeal. MIND YOU, MY presence there might have to stay low key, as I am identified as an 'enemy of the state' (of Kalifornicatia)... no warrants (yet), but easily avoided.

Does anybody know how to do one of those maps where you can 'pin your tail on the donkey'? IE, place your address so that the logistics are readily visible?

Hey... one tie-died shirt, some dreadlock hair extensions, and a pair of sandals, and you'd be perfectly disguised (either as a member of the Rainbow Gathering, or as a Google software engineer... take your pick!)

Ought to be able to do it with Google Maps. You'd sign in, go to Maps, tell it to create a custom map for your account, click-and-drop a bunch of pin markers onto it, then use the "Share map" feature and add the email addresses of the people you want to have the system give access to the custom map.

I suspect that Mapquest, et al, probably have similar capabilities these days.

EDIT: I'll try setting up such a shared personal map, this evening, after I get home and have full access to my personal-use account. If it works I'll post a link here.

If you are supposed to wear those hard-toe shoes, the Safety folks generally frown on one not having them. I have a baaaad habit of crossing the yellow line with my non-hard toes to talk with the Assembly guys at my work. I don't pick up any tools or heavy parts, and I am getting better about wearing them when they call me out to look at something.

Spirit used to have a cheap direct from Houston to Oakland, but they just dropped it. The reason I know is that my daughter has been using it to visit her husband while he is Calinorphia for work. She is irritated and checking alternates as I type. Still, I'm half-baked enough to fly somewhere to meet! I spent 8.5 hours on the road (round trip, due to weather dictated detours) to spend five hours in the Dallas area. But it was so worth it!!!!

um... HOW exactly? i tried searching for a mall nearby to where i am, and it shows up, but i can't click on ANYTHING to make it "stick"... there is no option to "add a marker" anywhere for me... i AM logged in to my google account, and i can copy the map and share the map, i can even embed the map in my website (i guess, i never finished the click-thru) but there doesn't seem to be any way "I" can add a pin to "YOUR" map... could this be a lack of editing permissions kind of thing?, or maybe I'm just doing it wrong?

Click on the little pointer thingy in one of the white boxes below the search box, the one that says "Add Marker" when you roll over it with your mouse.

That trick didn't work for me, either. Same problem on both Chrome and Firefox. The pin-drop selection simply doesn't appear at all.

I think the trick is as Greg suggested: you shared out the map with default permissions. Anyone who has the link can open and print it, but not edit. To let people add their own pins you have to allow other people to edit the map... which you can do from the "Share" menu,

I've created one under my account, which should be editable by anyone who has the link. I added two data layers to it - one is a copy of the data from your map ("Locations relevant to...") and the other is "Approximate location of fans".

Here's the link to mine... please let me know if you can select one or the other of the data overlay layers and add pins.
