I concur, at least as far as the Honey and Lemon, and cant counter-indicate the rest.
(Cinnamon is a funny kind of thing; part irritant, part restorative. )
Look here you, you better get better or I'm going to start dosing you with freshly crushed, and yes Raw, Garlic bulbs.

I'll arm you with Mom-grade hearty rib-stickin' chili, knock-you-out beef stew, and the family-famous "oughta be trademarked as Panacea" chicken noodle soup.Sgt. A few meals each of all that, and germs will fear her immune system's terrible wrath.

I'm dealing with my old bronchial woes. Allergies brought a mild cold around to worse, so yeah...TazManiac wrote:I concur, at least as far as the Honey and Lemon, and cant counter-indicate the rest.

My tisane is beefarm honey straight from the farmers market, lime juice, raw ginger rough chopped, and a pinch of cayenne, with boiling water poured over, and left to steep for a good while.
I eat raw garlic, garlic soaked in brandy(as an expectorant), and massive amounts of garlic in my food. My pores are starting to purge it, and still the cold, it remains.
Once my son lies down for the night, I'm grabbing the old Korean cure...26 year old Korean ginseng from the old country pickled in high proof alcohol(rum I think). I smegging dare it to stick around after that!
If it does, it's antibiotics for me. I don't play. My son already went to the doctors for whatever it's worth...I miss my old physician.
Glytch, I'm eating Neoguri with extra hot peppers tossed in, but thanks. Soup is great for feeding the fevers that starve the colds.

All that sounds excellent for dealing with a cold. Tasty, too.DinkyInky wrote:My tisane is beefarm honey straight from the farmers market, lime juice, raw ginger rough chopped, and a pinch of cayenne, with boiling water poured over, and left to steep for a good while.

Chicken noodle does everything for me. The steam from cooking and eating it helps decongest, especially when I hold the bowl close and take in the smell. The broth does wonders for a sore and/or postnasal-drip-gunkified throat. And it's super nutritious and full of fuel for the fire that is the fever. It even helps keep you hydrated.DinkyInky wrote:Glytch, I'm eating Neoguri with extra hot peppers tossed in, but thanks. Soup is great for feeding the fevers that starve the colds.

Re: Tina, Tina, boBinna
Normally works for me too, but when it doesn't, either my Mother's kelp(closest I can get to describing it to you)and sprout soup or some spicy ramen(Neoguri is a brand name instant, I usually make a scratch version that has sodium levels in the sane level, and loads of veggies). I grew up blended Korean/Polish, so some staples are vastly different. I didn't have so much chicken soup/dumpling soup and such until I started vacationing with my Grandparents.GlytchMeister wrote:Chicken noodle does everything for me. I favor the use of Hot and Sour soup for colds... either the omnivore version made with pork, or a veggie version. It's good for what ails ya, with black and red pepper, rice vinegar, lily buds, and tree-ear mushrooms. Add additional hot pepper (paste or oil) to suit your tolerance and desire.

My soup tends to have the ingredient coming in a little glass bottle that is dispensed with a tiny glass spoon...(hint: Sydney of Grrl Power would use it to top a very spicy meal)Dave wrote:I favor the use of Hot and Sour soup for colds... either the omnivore version made with pork, or a veggie version. Pure cap, just a drop. Feeling the burn right now.Dave wrote:Aah, but which of Sydney's three choices that day would go best wirh a good H&S soup? Masochism, torment, or death?
Spent all day making beefy vegetable soup(well, six hours of occasional stirring, skimming, cutting, dicing, crushing ingredients). Several pounds of short ribs pan seared, boiled, deboned, then gristle trimmed away.
Wild oregano and hickory salt seasoning. Loads of crushed garlic, potatoes, peas, carrots, colourful peppers, etc.
One pot had a cup of the broth simmering with rough chopped random grades of fire for mine. Pulled out just enough meat and veggies to make a bowl for me, stirred into broth, then placed in bowl. Added said drop, then stirred well again. Ate with toasted hoagies.

Oh, man... does that ever look good! It's enough to make me hungry all over again... and I just finished two sinfully-large portions of pad thai, pineapple fried rice, Panang curry with chicken, and a Cambodian curry-stew made with rock cod that I can't pronounce but has become a favorite. (Been traveling overseas for the last month, and was jonesing for Southeast Asian cuisine in a big way).
Some food just needs to take time... your soup seems to be one of those.

It's never actually a cold, but I call it that in hopeful wishings.Warrl wrote:If your problem is really a cold (and *just* a cold) antibiotics won't touch it.DinkyInky wrote:If it does, it's antibiotics for me.
It's almost always Allergy Bronchitis, Strep, or Pneumonia if I don't catch it quickly enough(read: don't have money for the doctor visit). I wish I could catch a simple cold.
That might be hot enough...TazManiac wrote:Replace 'Coffee' w/ 'Soup'...
