Dave, ya lost me. I am completely failing to see how jiggle physics and taxes are related.

Uh oh. Does that mean I have to delve into the realm of TV Tropes? :sigh: Welp, better go get the ropes and harness. Don't want to fall in.Dave wrote:Look up the history of Gainax.

Wikipedia will be adequate, and much safer.GlytchMeister wrote:Uh oh. Does that mean I have to delve into the realm of TV Tropes? :sigh: Welp, better go get the ropes and harness. Don't want to fall in.Dave wrote:Look up the history of Gainax.

If by "much safer" you mean "instead of spelunking into an active volcanic conduit, you're delving into a dormant one" kind of danger difference, yeah. The Other Wiki isn't exactly innocent of tab explosions.Dave wrote:Wikipedia will be adequate, and much safer.GlytchMeister wrote:Uh oh. Still, it is a big difference.
Warning, link page contains a hidden link to an extremely NSFGWD page of TV Tropes, and is also a popular Webcomic, which is also very NSFGWD. Be wary.

Oh, I already knew what Gainaxing is. I've fallen into TV Tropes many times. But that still has nothing, on the surface at least, to do with not paying taxes.
...
It sure is amazing what the modding community has been doing with The Elder Scrolls games, isn't it?

Right. I was funning with the definition of "Gainaxing", by looking at what Gainax actually does/did.GlytchMeister wrote:Oh, I already knew what Gainaxing is. I've fallen into TV Tropes many times. But that still has nothing, on the surface at least, to do with not paying taxes.
What they're best known for, of course, is their anime style, with lovingly-animated oscillating body parts.
What they're less known for (but it's on record) is the fact that their financial position was very precarious in their early days, and when they "made it big" with Neon Genesis Evangelion their management decided that it would be a good idea to salt away some money for the future.
Unfortunately, the way that they chose to do so, was to cook the books. They made bogus "expense" payments to associate companies, then got most of the payments back as cash (which wasn't reported). Since these amounts were reported as legitimate business costs (and thus offset their reported income) they didn't pay tax on that part of their income. That's what got their president and chief accountant arrested and jailed.
They were not, however, beheaded by an oscillating swordswoman.
I could amplify on this by pointing out that too much Gainax often causes oscillation, but that would not Bode well for my future.

Heh. I just added "The Threepenny Opera" to that TVTropes page.
