It appears that either during or just at the end of the kiss Nadette regained her control to make her ears 'human' again (and probably put her tail away)

I know this has noting to do with the story line, it just suggests to me that the kiss was 100% Nadette with no 'help' from any lingering affect (if any) from Atsali's siren song

We don't know that. Atsali has been on adventures more, plus she's hung around with Monica and the whole Aunt Assembly. She might just be more composed than Nadette. Or she might be seeing something in the whole tableau of screaming people and fire that Nadette is too freaked out to notice. Since Atsali and Nadette are going to react differently (a given considering how they both reacted to Thymbris) we can't tell if Atsali is seeing the same thing, a different thing, or nothing at all.

Now that you mention it, they do look familiar.

But they're not the ones from http://wapsisquare.com/comic/still-there/ – those are all in modern garb, and with pupils, and not in a conflagration-like field.

So ... what are we talking? Was there a Chimera cut scene I'm forgetting? Or other "ghosts"?

I wonder if Sali can see what Nadette sees. After all she is pulling Sali away from them and Sali is just looking with the what the heck expression.

Well, Atsali's night vision apparently isn't all that great, or at least is much more limited than is Nadette's or Tsillah's. This could be something that Nadette's seer abilities are showing her that ordinary folks can't perceive, or just simply something that her better eyesight is showing her that Atsali can't see.

Or maybe Atsali can see it, but her run-away-from-danger reflexes aren't as hair triggered as are Nadette's. Instead, she's wanting to try to figure out what's going on.

Or Atsali's brain is still too preoccupied with warm fuzzies.

Now the question becomes how did the cat get to Mars.

It was always there, and always not there. And it was both alive and dead. Then some jerk sent a probe to observe the place, and messed everything up for the poor kitty.

The essence is not the image. Just because one is gone doesn't mean that the other is unavailable.

The essence is not the image. Just because one is gone doesn't mean that the other is unavailable.

They could actually be there, and dangerous... or they could just be memories, and thus even more dangerous.

perhaps we don't.. at least not yet... but I am convinced that Nadette is seeing something that Atsali doesn't... if Atsali sees something different or sees nothing at all, I could not say... but she sees something different

I don't think Atsali can see what Nadette sees, personally. This might be the reason why Nadette was "allowed" to come along with Atsali on this trip.

I'm getting a feeling this might have been some sort of 'top secret' [Ethetian?] facility ... I doubt any/most people in there would have followed the evacuation orders and ended up in the crystals.

What if it's sort of a combination of BOTH of those thoughts? it was a secret facility that when the time came to get stored, they entered the crystal network on their own (or had a separate one from Brandi's that didn't get sabotaged by Thup the Nu Gui) and were awakened by Katherine and Atsali entering the facility... but Bud got the three of them out of there before they could make contact... remember: Bud, Katherine and Atsali never left the one single room they entered by... these "ghosts" could have been in the process of being decanted right next door and they never knew it!... either way, Bud left, and then the Reactor Melt-down occurred... THESE ghosts could be what was recorded by the Stone Tape effect of the survivors getting blasted with the steam and rads from the reactor, just a few seconds after they left...
