Is this another SA-LOOT! to the Foglios? I actually was thinking on the order of 'SKY CAPTAIN & THE WORLD OF TOMORROW'.(although I've never seen it I would like to since it sounds Interesting.)

Sky Captain is not bad at all and its funny i was just reading Girl Genius before the new comic appeared.

Or, are we meeting the main character of future Atsali's young adult novels?

Other than the wrist warmers, the outfit definitely reminiscent of the professors work in Girl Genius (GG). As does the 'Airship Captain' title.TheDOCTOR wrote:Is this another SA-LOOT! to the Foglios?
The wing on the gask mask emblem? VERY reminiscent.

hmmm ... does mean this 'Sparkles Smartiepants' works (or worked?) for Klaus?
Now, as for the gas mask? Gas weapons (usually non-lethal) have shown up in GG, but I'm wondering if the gas masks are a nod to Calista's demons?

Rubberband machinegunner Kingklash reporting for duty, Captain!
Re: Airship Comander Sparkles Smartiepants 2014-10-24
Yes! Saw it, never having seen the series it was based on. Amazing visuals, but the plot creaked a bit toward the end (Operation Kitchen Knife? Really...), and it seemed to be missing something. A bit like the Wizard of Oz prequel movie, which, again, had amazing visuals but missed the mark. Both failed to draw me in enough to Rah-Rah for the good guys and Boo-Hiss at the bad guys.TazManiac wrote:Has anybody seen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sucker_Pun ... 11_film%29

Well, airships do tend to be filled with large volumes of certain gasses, though typically not the type that gas-masks would be much help with. Perhaps rather than a gas-mask, it's some sort of an oxygen-provider. Or she tends to fly around very volcanic regions, maybe with a secret lair in a dormant caldera.Opus the Poet wrote:Kyyuuuuteee! Or she sails the skies, dropping stink-bombs on the unruly populous. I'd imagine that Castela would enjoy being her accomplice in that sort of thing. "Chief Bombardier Pickle, repotting for duty!"

Agreed that the plot of Sucker Punch was paper thin. The visuals were a concentrated orgy of awesomeness, though. If you can turn off your brain and just enjoy the ride, pretty girls annihilating cyborg zombie Nazis can be highly entertaining.

Yeah, both 'Sky Captain...' & 'Sucker Punch' are suspend-yer-disbelife, and enjoy yerself films- each in its own way.
A thought occurs; each has antecedents (gret spell check id off-line again, I knopw it)*, each film, and Atsali as SCSP (those pants do indeed look very 'smart') is channeling some stuff that came before.
An aside; 'Sucker Punch', to a certain degree, reminds me of the 'Heavy Metal' animation. Brilliant during conception, hard as hell to successfully, satisfyingly execute in reality.

Back on topic;
The pin-up with Atsali reminds me of Paul's prev Pirate Gal stuff.

The thing about Sucker Punch is that it doesn't spoon-feed you any answers; you have to not only figure out, but decide for yourself what's "really" going on. After watching it the first time, I sat down and came up with two different, conflicting theories about what was happening, and then I watched it again. Both theories worked! At the same time!TazManiac wrote:An aside; 'Sucker Punch', to a certain degree, reminds me of the 'Heavy Metal' animation. In the end, I concluded (I'm paraphrasing a half-remembered quote whose attribution escapes me) that Sucker Punch is a mirror. When a monkey looks at it, he won't see a philosopher looking back.

Looks like the next season of "Face Off" needs to do a "Wizard of Oz as envisioned by Tim Burton" challenge.
