Besides, I don't think a cup-and-ball game does much in the way of bringing anticipation to anyone...
Well, Connie was clearly anticipating shoving it up the blargelnster of the person who invented it, even if she had to travel to the Land of the Dead to do so... :)

I'd guess, then, that you're referring to the door of the "Elf House" in a tree at Lake Harriet. I believe I recall that we've seen Monica visit it twice? I remember her meeting someone signficant there (Georgette's sister Jill??). Can't find any of the links right off the bat, though.
Not bad, got it in two tries.

It was indeed the tree elf house. Here are the three successive strips that deal with it:

Question away, kind sir!

I might have found it sooner, had I just read the strips a bit, rather than cursively run over the lot... Then I was several days without having time to look...

That was a good question. The info was right there in the open, yet subtle enough to need paying attention to details.

Oh goodie! I've been wanting to pull this on y'all for a while but didn't have the right answer quick enough.

Sooo....

A two part question! Given my love for art styles and the character design artifacts that make up a cartoon style, I have a visual hunt for you to pursue:
  • When was the First and Last appearance of Wapsonian Ear Hair?
Specifically, extending beyond the edge of the ear -- not just an interior line. Any character will do, because it may or may not be Monica.

Giggles evilly to self -- Muwhahahahah....

Wow! That's quite the task!

OK, i'm working on the first sighting:
(Consider this as “thinking out loud”)
  • An interesting progression of ear definition line, though not yet ear hair:
  • The first one with squigly lines in his ears is Darin. But no ear hair yet. He has mostly consistently had ear definition lines throughout, since that time.
  • The doctor was the next character to have ear definition lines, but still no ear hair.
  • Here, both Shelly and Jacqui sport swirly ear definition lines, but still no ear hair.
  • Around this time, Shelly starts having definition lines on a semi-regular basis.
  • Coming back from the bikers bar, Monica starts having ear definition lines, too. Still no ear hair.

  • As the ear definition lines improved and increased, there finally started appearing what looks like what may be considered ear hair:
  • Monica's boss sports an ear definition line that is straight, in the second panel, and it looks like it's sticking out a little. That may or may not have been intentional. This may or may not, therefore, be the first link being sought after.
  • The firefighter ladies also sport ear definition lines which stick out, be they straight or curved. Were those, intentional? No idea. This may or may not be the one Atomic is looking for.
  • In the last panel, here, it looks like the line is sticking out slightly. It may or may not have been intentional. Is that the link Atomic was looking for?
  • In the first panel, this definitely looks like ear hair, on Shelly. If the links above were not to Atomic's liking, this one should do it.
  • Then we have Owen, with ear hair, as far as I can tell.
From there on, many characters sport those, they are sometimes curved, sometimes straight, they sometimes stick out, sometimes not. They still look much of the time as if they're merely ear definition lines that went too far, but it's hard to tell, and I can't say what Atomic is going to accept as first appearance or not.

Nevertheless, that was my examination of the gradual appearance of ear definition lines which later evolved into ear hair. I will refrain from looking at beginning appearance any further, until Atomic can corroborate whether I did find the first one or not.

Edited for emphasis.

Now looking for the last appearance of the fabled ear hair.

At one point, the ear definition lines changed style, to some form of crooked squiggle. However, even those sometimes stick out, like they do on Bud, here. If Atomic is considering those as valid ear hair, then we must merely look back from the last comic, to the latest iteration of the squiggle that sticks out.

I'm going to do that, now, to find the last time we see that squiggle stick out.

On the other hand, if Atomic says those are not valid, but is looking for the last time we see the straight ear hair, then we need to work back from the example I showed with Bud, to see when the ear definition lines change style, and find the last straight, sticking out, ear hair.

Ah, no -- that's an ear vine. Interestingly, they were common among high class women in 17th century Vienna, for whom gardening was a favorite past time, and bathing was generally rare. All manner of plant life could take hold where least expected. Of course, the various trend setters of the era had to get into the act and create something to sell to the fashionistas. By the late 17th century, it was common for those in elegant, formal dress to cover the vines using earwigs.

Badum, kish!

So I won't be looking for any more ear vines. But should I still be looking for squiggly ear hair (like the example I showed for Bud), or are you strictly interested in straight or curved ear hair?

As far as I can tell, Amanda's right ear hair (panel 4) is the last one to be seen in the comic.

Good thing I was still looking for squiggly ear hair, or I would have missed that one...

I know that. But I showed an example where instead of a straight line that extended out (as your example), with no other line inside the ear, it was possible to have a squiggly inside line that also extended out at the end of the squiggle. I wanted to know if that was also acceptable.

But the point is moot, now, if I indeed did find the last ear hair in existence (which is straight, and is found past any squiggly, extending out ear hair, as well), as per my previous post, which is still awaiting judgement.

Um, Atomic? Are you there?

I posted a post wherein I linked to several candidates for first ear hair, and later posted another one, with what I believe was the last seen ear hair... Was I right on any of those?

Pardon my delay in responding, but I was basing this on the Books, and the first one I saw was a bit Later than yours, and my printed copy was much less obvious than the web copy.

Congrats! Your question!

Thank you. It was hard work, getting there...

I'll poardon your delay in responding, if you pardon my impatience... :D
I was getting hung up on the fact that you had taken the time to answer a question I had asked before posting my answer on the last appearance, yet said nothing on whether I had any of them right. That was wrong of me to do so.

That is one advantage of the PDF ebook over the printed copy: you can zoom in...

Let me think on that one. Be back soon.

OK, this one should be relatively easy:

Q: How much is Dietzel worth to Monica?

And, as I'm assuming that is THE correct answer...

What spider-related item has been used by one of our characters, other than Calista?
