First of all...Yeezus!
Now, I'm still not certain I fully comprehend what happened here (besides, you know, the pep rally thing...THAT I get)...she MADE some friends, i.e. pieced together gossamer and animated it? And then took them to a normal school?
So if the head cheerleader figured out these things were not actual people, I would imagine the reaction would be less the normal teasing and laughing at someone who had to "make" friends, but rather more of fear as to how she did it and what kind of being she is. And I would certainly expect the school administration to remove her from the student population such that she would not have even been at the pep rally. Apologies for my slowness, but am I missing something?
EDIT: Can't tell, but was her old school a special one for supernatural beings like Gryphon High?

What Cricket did sounds harsh, but it's actually pretty tame for the Fae. As for the Gossamer friends, they remind me of the way purchasers of fembots were put down in Sinfest. "Oh, so you have to make/buy friends? Loser!"
Re: Pep Rally 2014-07-08
Yup, that's basically it. "Imaginary" friends, made somewhat-real by her Fae powers. She apparently started out creating them at home during her younger years, then started taking them along to school after her attempts to make real friends at school failed.txmystic wrote:First of all...Yeezus!

I'm guessing that it was a paranormal school, not a normal school. If it were the latter, the cheerleader gang likely wouldn't have known enough to detect the fact that her friends were gossamer constructs rather than real people... and, if they had, they'd probably have reacted with fear rather than going right to "Hey, let's do a humiliating reveal".
Agreed... and that's why I suspect she was at an East Coast school for the paranormal, and not at a normal humans-only school. So if the head cheerleader figured out these things were not actual people, I would imagine the reaction would be less the normal teasing and laughing at someone who had to "make" friends, but rather more of fear as to how she did it and what kind of being she is.
The administration might not even have been aware of what occurred between Cricket and the stuck-up cheerleader gang. A great deal of the social interaction between groups of teens is deliberately concealed from adults... at least, that's the way it occurs in human teen peer groups and I suspect it would be the same among paranormals. Consider how modern teens tend to abandon a social-networking site as soon as their parents figure out how to use it and check up on the kidsAnd I would certainly expect the school administration to remove her from the student population such that she would not have even been at the pep rally.?

As to just what Cricket actually did... we don't yet know whether she just pulled off one hell of a glamor (creating a convincing illusion that the cheerleaders were getting excessively frisky out on the field) or whether she actually compelled them somehow. It's possible that the cheerleaders were out on the pep-rally field, doing their usual well-rehearsed cheers, while everybody else at the rally saw them doing something else entirely.
Either one would be tremendously humiliating for the cheerleaders... and hence repaying their humiliation of Cricket "in kind". She might have had enough instinct at self-preservation to decide not to actually compel them into sexual activity (if she even possesses that power). If it were only an illusion, she could try to claim "no actual harm, no actual foul" and avoid the worst of her punishment. She was expelled, but not (as far as we know) punished more than that... I'd expect that an "assault by compulsion" would have earned even a Fae princess some jail time or the equivalent.
if I recall correctly, one classic way for the Fae and other tricksters to punish someone to whom they have taken a disliking, is to take on that person's form via a glamor and then do something shocking and unforgivable, and let the victim face the consequences. If Cricket did a group-glamor on the cheerleading squad it would be sorta in the same tradition.
True, we don't. However, her reading, and her mental marination in the soul-dump of a whole civilization, doesn't seem to have prepared her for her own awakening into sexual maturity. She seemed completely mystified at her own first incident of physical arousal. So, I think she's still got a big gap between "book learning" and "understanding" in this area.kingklash wrote:While viewed as a type of Innocent, remember Atsali-Boo is well-read, and eidetic to boot. So may we assume that Calista is socially maladapted due to her isolation on the one hand and a wide range of knowledge of deviant behavior on the other?
I suppose the Fae may be lazy in caring for their young because of their confidence in their power, but it is just a little short sighted to dismiss the value of real-life friends in the oh-so-many aspects of life.
Wisdom has to be hunted down and captured, even by the Fae.

OK. Um. I might come up with something more intelligent to say when the initial shock wears off.

Given that Tina can see all 11 dimensions, dark matter, the auras of living things, and likely has eons of cumulative 'past' experience dealing with glamor?Catawampus wrote:I'm guessing that glamour would be of very limited effect on demons.

Seems like the only ones promised a degree of safety are humans and sphinxes. http://wapsisquare.com/comic/stop-you/Julie wrote:![]()

Oh my.
Assuming that demons can affect non-human folk in any way (unless that was covered somewhere in the forums and I missed it). If demons can't affect non-humans, then Tina wouldn't necessarily be able to shurt Cricket down.My2Cents wrote:My vote is for Tina. Cricket is neither human or sphinx, so Tina can shut her down at will. This would probably force Tina to become her mentor, and major character growth.

Atsali, dear, it's a bit like this, but much more -- ah -- intimate:

Okay, so Cricket's a rapist, and I doubt any of them realize that right now.
This should get interesting.

Re: Pep Rally 2014-07-08
If Cricket could do a glamour powerful enough to plant memories in everyone at the pep rally that the cheerleaders had done the deed, then she is probably powerful enough to implant the memories in the heads of the cheerleaders that they had done it. But there would have been no physical evidence to back any of it up. Though you have to wonder what those cheerleaders do together now, when no one else is around.Dave wrote:As to just what Cricket actually did... we don't yet know whether she just pulled off one hell of a glamor (creating a convincing illusion that the cheerleaders were getting excessively frisky out on the field) or whether she actually compelled them somehow. Don’t think this would make it any less nasty. She could make all your friends know the worse than the worst of you. Or she could give you memories of things you could never physically survive, or want to, and make you enjoy them.

Re: Pep Rally 2014-07-08
I've always thought of a glamor as being the projection of an extremely convincing illusion - not a memory-implant. I have no idea if a glamor could make you believe that you'd done something you had not.
