Tina, Tina, boBinna

Post by TazManiac » Fri Feb 14, 2014 10:54 pm

Well, it's Friday, and 'I'm in a Tina State of Mind...'

It seems Atsali isn't/wasn't the only only one spooked by Tina...

I like this character, maybe not the 'most' but a great deal.

OK, trying to pick up the threads of my er Thread, I am failing in making a point, so far...

In the mean time I'm going to pose a question:

- Given what we know, why hasn't Tina, er well, rotted away? Is her animated shell 'alive'? Does she eat and have a 'normal' metabolism?

There was some debate about this in another thread last month (January 22). I won't quote here all of what I said there, but just say that my conclusion is that Tina is probably biologically just about as alive as most of the other characters. Without the active "puppeteering" of her covey/coven of demons, her body is (I suspect) in something like a persistent vegetative state... but she's neither dead nor "undead".

I can't recall that Paul has ever explicitly stated how "alive" her body is or isn't (either in-strip or in a forum posting). So, I could well be wrong. All I can say is that I think this hypothesis is the most consistent with the evidence we've been shown.

I'd suspect that if you hooked up an EKG to her during the day, she'd be pretty much normal - with perhaps a smidgeon of difference in area of brain activity.

At night - when the demons "shut down" - she'd probably register as brain dead.

If Tina's body wasn't technically alive any of these hair changes she has been making would be permanent. We just have to wait to see if it grows back.

Hmmm, yeah, OK. So, (if I had been recollecting properly I would have remembered I had actually seen that thread and so) Tina's Body is Alive.

In fact she is likely warm and respirates and eliminates and everything.

We know too that she's missing some ocular equipment, but can manifest something to 'fill the void' so to speak; Success in this area varies from time to time http://wapsisquare.com/comic/realsweetie/ , also (re: Monica's boyfriend remarking that 'they look like silver Christmas Ornaments...'). What happened to her body's original eyes?

Huh, heres a wild tangent; what if a given person lost their eyes but had a replacement based on a pair(ed?) set of symbiotic organisms. When the Right and Left have 'disagreements, they might be differing eye colors... but I digress... [but I call copyright nonetheless.]

Hmm, here's another seemingly random thought, (and Thx for going along w/ the rambling post-it note nature of this thread...),

Tina's been 'blowing sunshine up the butt' of a great many customers during her tenure with Mucho Mocha (sp).

I wonder if theres been any crushes-type "I've been noticing you from my seat over by the window and I wanted to...", "what do you mean 'what am I doing, standing nude in your kitchen while cooking you dinner?', and really, what the hell is "Who are you?!" all about anyway?", stalker, obsessive, wait, wait, wait... back into the middle of the road type gentle, sensitive, perhaps not fully comprehending but intrigued nonetheless unrequited love type person who's approached her and or generated close physical contact.

I'd appreciate someone who brought Tina some joy, but without being a creepy necrophiliac or something...

These have been some very interesting turns of events recently, esp given that Tina, up to now, has been a very self-confident 'person'.

These days?, not so much...

I think "Schlock Mercenary" may have beaten you out with that one. Sgt. Schlock's eyes are actually independent living entities... occasionally he loses one (or both) and has to go back and harvest from the "eye tree" again.

Years ago, someone (I think it may have been Shelly but can't recall for sure) asked Tina whether she'd had any intimate relationships. Tina said that "the rats running the ship" found the idea of having sex using Tina's body to be rather uncomfortable (or creepy).

Tina 2.0 has always seemed to have feelings of regret and responsibility about Tina 1.0 and what happened to her, and are trying to "live in a good way" out of respect for her. I've interpreted the coven's reluctance to use the Tina body for sex to be part of that tradition... they feel that it wouldn't be respectful.

Actually, it just occurred to me... it could be dangerous for all concerned, as well as disrespectful. As a demonic entity, Tina possesses the power of demonic compulsion - we've seen it used a number of times. This could mean that anything she said to a partner, in a moment of passion, would be taken literally as an imperative command that was literally impossible to disobey.

That could be very kinky, or humiliating, or accidentally lethal... and Tina dare not hurt any human!

With Tina's ability to read auras, she would immediately know the intentions of possible suitors. This would let her shut them down, delicately or not as the case required. Her 'Demon Voice' would be helpful there.
I can see customers becoming infatuated with her, she's cute, quirky, and fun to listen to. Only seeing her there, with 'good' eyes, most of the time, you wouldn't suspect anything out of the ordinary. Especially after her 'Gilligan' moments.
If I could, I would love to sit in Mucho Mocha and eavesdrop on her advice to her customers.

The Eye Tree huh? (dammit...)

Ooh ooh, maaaaybe Tina has a romance w/ a non-human then, howboutthat?

(I get the feeling I'm now hurling spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks...)

Well, this particular subject is likely something for further on down the road, Tina has some other stuff to deal with right now.

OK, back to random Tina posits and misc post-it note type non-sequiturs;

If I recall correctly Tina 1.0 (the 'human' Tina) was the daughter of a Drug Lord, got into a Car Crash and 'died', only to resurrect (or at least reanimate).
Later Tina 2.0 was able to investigate 'who she was' as v1.0 (the girl previously know as Tina, heh heh), and find out some stuff, But, and here is my question:

How/where did Tina get the capital to acquire/start the Coffee Shop?

Personally, I hope she grows it out again.

I liked it better when she was being non-conformist (uber-uber-retro?) w/ the face paint rather than the hair-do.

I can see two ways to start:
1) As the daughter of a Drug lord, that she was about to testify against, I would guess she had lots of untraceable cash either on her or hidden in her apartment back in Miami.
2) The second way would be playing high stakes poker, With her abilities she would always know the other players hands.

followed a link from the forums, looked at the next few strips and came across this:

http://wapsisquare.com/comic/littlevisit/

Jin's(?) Doubt talking to Monica.

In that and the next few pages there are some interesting bits of information (assuming Jin's(?) Doubt is being mostly truthful)

from: http://wapsisquare.com/comic/funnyhuh/

Tina's Demons conspired WITH Monica's Demons to cause both Monica's and Tina's accidents.

I knew Tina's Demons were responsible - but how could Monica's Demons be involved? And why were they not punished?

from: http://wapsisquare.com/comic/notmortality/

was Monica as a kid was already the Demon Shepherd, but didn't know it and was manipulated by Demons?

Tina's Demons punishment of forgetting may not be a punishment, but an intended result? (http://wapsisquare.com/comic/blissful/ is relevant here)

this page is interesting: http://wapsisquare.com/comic/became-human/

"Tina's act that day was evil disguised as a good deed"
+
"It's possible to do good things and still be evil"
+
"Evil is a human element, not a demon one"
=
???

If it was an 'evil' act, could the 'Tina' being spoken about be Tina1.0 working with her Demons to cause her own and Monica's accidents?

I have wondered about this before. If human Tina did this willingly, perhaps knowing that her soul would bond with an immortal beforehand, that would make her a willing sacrifice and the punishments would be null points. The memory wipes may just have been part and parcel of what they were trying to achieve.

Also the whole use of the word evil in that sequence could very well be an old fashioned red herring.

It also may be that Tina 1.0 had absolutely NOTHING to do with it. She may have been the reason why the plan failed every other time in the past, and Jin never knew why.

As I post this, Tina is on an Island, pruportadly hoping to resolve 'some stuff...', but most everybody else is living the Island Life and obstensably just letting things unfold afore them.

Those not activly whooping the tar out of Bia that is.

Is Tina just going to be the catalyst or is she really going through something pivotal? Tune in next week, same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel...

(and my spell check isnt right now, culpa mea.)

Well, my hunch is "pivotal". There's a lot of momentum heading in that direction.
  • Phix has pretty much confirmed that Tina is evolving into something new, and has hinted that Tina (like Connie) might become a unified entity as opposed to a coven-of-individuals. Phix seems to have played some part in setting this up, and favors it (even to the extent of giving Tina a freedom-from-monitoring that the other sphinxes might not approve).
  • Tina's "darkwing" aspect recently flashed over into a "whitewing", at least temporarily, once it was clear that Tina's intervention with Georgette and Monica hadn't resulted in disaster but had actually brought about a healing.
  • Tina had a dream, in which her "inner speech" was much more human-like that we've ever seen it before. She was "talking to herself" in a single voice, rather than as a bunch of separate demon-voices conversing with one another.
  • During that dream, Tina was "seeing" light in a human way... not seeing auras and dark matter and swirling dimensions.
  • She also saw, and talked with an adult Bia while dreaming.
  • Nothing like this has ever happened to Tina 2.1 before.
  • Young Bia has just confirmed that she was in Tina's dream... it wasn't "just a dream", it was a real presence of some sort. This implies that the changes Tina was experiencing during the dream may also be real.
  • Young Bia has also disclosed (presumably truthfully) that she's Tina's great-grandmother, and thus that Tina and Shelly are relatives. Tina isn't just a coven of demons in a human-body shell... she's a coven of demons in a part-Titan shell. I'll bet the sphinxes are going to love that, almost as much as they love the idea of Connie. I wonder if Phix knew...?
Now, we may very well find out some interesting stuff which was catalyzed by the beach party and Bia's appearance, of course.

We may learn more about the destruction of Lanthis, and whether Bud and Jin had earlier dealings with Bia (Bud's cussing suggests this), and just what Bia has actually been trying to achieve in "setting things right". Young Bia seems to be in a "spill the beans, and clean up the spilled milk" mood... if she's trading in manipulation on a nice batch of disclosure and truth, some interesting facts may soon come out.

Sorry, Taz, this must all be my fault... by proxy, at least.

You see, my wife and her cousin have been on vacation during the past few weeks. They're in Morocco.

Specifically, right now they're in Casablanca.

And, as we know, when you're stuck in Casablanca trying to get an exit visa, ...

... you wait. And wait. And wait. And wait.

That's probably where the next few strips involving Tina are, right now. They're stuck in Casablanca. Pablol's trying desperately to get a letter of transit for them, but the letter's sitting in the back of a Peterbilt lorry somewhere south of St. Paul.

Aaah, Casablanca. And the Waters there...

Shifting gears back to Tina-ski; here is something to look forward to: by the time new strips start appearing online Tina's "I'm-going-through-something-so-I-cut-my-hair" hair-do will have had a a chance to grow out...
