Christmas tree(s) in available darkness experiment

Playing with the new Nikon - available darkness photography.  The only light came from the trees themselves

These are segments of larger images, all roughly 2800 x 2500 pixels, resized to 1000 x 900.
 
Manual exposures.

ISO 800. Aperture f 3.5 for all.

I think I like the 1/3.5th the best. Nice balance of light and dark. IMHO, of course...

I like the 1/3.5 and the 1/40 for different reasons. The 1/40 shows the bulb colours best, and it has a sort of "waiting for Santa Claus" feel.

the 1/3.5, as you say, has a nice balance; i especially like the shadow patterning on the wall in that one.

These were shot this morning, and the room was a bit better lighted - sunlight coming in the windows of an adjacent room that i couldn't block. "Program Auto" mode.

I shot RAW images and converted to PNG using FastStone Image Converter free software.

(Dammit - FastStone didn't preserve the EXIF on the PNGs, so i don't have exposure info ... jes' a sec...)
