I think that sidewalk depression was more from a combination of velocity plus an unyielding body than from sheer mass. When normal bodies hit pavement, the body loses and spreads out, absorbing the force. With Bud. her body doesn't yield a bit and is far harder than the sidewalk could ever be. I think that "hardness" is not so much intrinsic as it is a result of energy from the galactic rotation fortifying the actual clay shell. Sort of a really, really hard/strong force field. I guess it would be analogous to the inter-atomic forces which make up matter. After all, what we think of as solid is really just the forces between the bits of matter rather than the matter itself. Especially considering there is actually a vanishingly tiny amount of matter contained in anything with which we interact, concrete included.

I am wondering if that might be a sonic boom type of trans location. Bud was at the space where it started and thus received the full effect of the blast knocking her flying. Astali was to the side and just got stunned by the blast. Talk about getting a move on.

I wonder if golems can swim, or if their density is too great? We've always seen them by the water or standing in water, never anything more.

Actually the GG's structure is more like a porcelain doll, hollow on the inside. So she may float higher than a human, or might be able to take on ballast to submerge.

Actually the GG's structure is more like a porcelain doll, hollow on the inside. So she may float higher than a human, or might be able to take on ballast to submerge.

And also interesting that she would have the density to bowl Bud over like that!

I just noticed Castela's eye "buds" in today's strip, as well! It made me go back over a couple of the older strips with her to see if it's been consistently that way. I'd originally thought that she just had black sclera with oddly-shaped white "pupils", not empty holes with little eye stalks in the middle. That's definitely a bit more unsettling, even considering how adorable she is otherwise.

I think that knowing Castela would be like knowing Tina. At first the fangs and the fun-house mirror eyes would be creepy. (Just imagine looking at a distorted reflection of yourself as you're talking to her) But after getting to know them, they'd just be another quirk in a friends personality.

Maybe her eyes are like Slaver Sunflowers (Ringworld) - reflector dishes with retinal bulb 'eyestalks' instead of liquid-filled, lensed globes with retinal disks on the inside rear surface like animal eyes.

On the subject of Castela's eyes, I just watched Star Trek: Into Darkness. It would not surprise me if she is turned out to be extraterrestrial instead of paranormal. I imagine both would fall under MIB jurisdiction.

Oh, sorry I didn't remember. I knew Keenser was in the first movie but didn't remember his eyes. Maybe Starfleet is inclusive enough to allow paranormals along with aliens.

And here it is Sunday - and we turned the clocks back one hour - which means I have to wait an additional hour on Monday before the new post goes up.Just goes to show that the folks who started this "time management" were not comic fans. A pox on them I say.

Don't forget that these may not be the kinds of clothes you get at MallWart from sweatshops in Bangladesh, these may get pretty pricey.

Yeah, the sweatshops get a whole five cents for these shops(Sorry, Most of the common clothing are about the same quality.
My sister has bought me a $90 pair of jeans that ripped to shreds in three months, and a $15 pair of jeans from the above mentioned Wart lasted me a year before shredding(designer jeans from an actual retail store, not a seconds store either).

I've had that happen with jeans before (though I rarely find the brand and fit that works best for me at the Wart)...but most other clothing or shoes I've purchased at cheapy-cheap stores have fallen to pieces much faster than my expensive stuffs...especially the shoes. I pay for shoes (unless I can get them on sale as they're going out of season/style or something). Clothes...well I believe in spending for the stuff that I can tell will last (if handled and laundered with care).

You're right though...you have to keep an eye out for big name brands being shoddily put together. Even if I'm at a fancy-pants store, I'm checking the seams and stitching to make sure that what I buy isn't likely to start unraveling in the first wash. I've had that happen too many times to get caught by it anymore (though I am a sucker for "pretty" from time to time).

I wish I could go on a $2000 shopping spree. I need to replace and augment some of my daily wear wardrobe...and I desperately need to have casual wear that is nicer than a t-shirt or hoodie for when I'm out and about but don't want to look like the lazy bum I am behind closed doors.

At one time - before i got fatter - the only jeans i could find that fit properly were a WalMart store brand.

I simply can't find off-the-rack clothing that fits me; when I go clothing shopping, it's less a case of, "Which of the pairs of trousers in this store should I buy?", and more a case of, "Which of these stores might have a pair of trousers that I could potentially wear?", so I really don't care what store or what brand I buy as long as it's properly made. At least my sewing skill lets me alter outfits to the point that they're an acceptable fit. I doubt that even $2000 would go all that far when it comes to buying custom-fitted tailored clothing.

Let's hope that sirens and critterphytes are a bit easier to buy for.
