This is exactly it. You did your own work and created her with several "models".

Boxilar's link is what has my friends pissed(and more than a few are professional comic artists). Before they became famous, I spent hours at the anime clubs picking their brains to hone my skills and strengthen my weak spots. I gladly modeled with friends so they could make silly anime pinups, because practical skills learned this way is priceless.

I really think they need some accountability.

IDW, on the other hand, has had a few eyebrows raised when they asked several GB fans to pose for the big four in their comics. People were out for blood about it until the "models" told the community they were asked if their likenesses could be used, then it died down. The fine print was rather glossed over by the fans.

And, for the swarm of people (OK, slightly more than one) who PM'd me about what I meant, here ya go:

Building up a good art morgue of poses, clothing, hairstyles and such is worth the effort! Granted, you need to weed it out every now and again (how many arms up-over-head references do you need anyway?), but it's good to go back and see stuff you might not have noticed before.

If not that, there are tons of Anatomy for Artist reference sites out there (NSFW ish -- nudes are common/normal for reference), so cast about and learn!

I apreciate the advice. I'll give it a shot. As far as "light boxing", it's actually disturbing how many professional comic book artists trace from magazines and the like. And I'm not talking about using a photo realistic background retouched to place your drawn character in front of. I mean the characters themselves are copied. This, right here is a prime example. And there are others. So many others.

As a construction project, I built the following in Gimp using several body models, clipped for pose/posture, and then inking over it. I wound up photographing my hands to get those referenced just right.

I'd be doing it a bit differently today (Popeye forearm can shrink some, fix the neck), but it is a valid way to build stuff.

That's a pretty cool, and pretty, Shelly. Im my opinion, there is nothing wrong with using refrences from real life. And I love the strip slaying, that is, rewording existing strips to humorous effect. Everyone I've seen do it is patying homage to the artist and having fin with his characters in a respectful manner.

What I get frosted about are paid professionals who are effectively stealing another artists work to make money.

And it's one mark of a good officer that s/he is careful to give orders in a way that makes them very difficult to misunderstand or misinterpret.

Ambiguity is not a Goodness when you are dealing with lots of things that go Boom.
