It just had to be a Harpy didn't it?? Well that just shows us that we are on a solid Greek path now.

Good for Katherine for being willing to visit the Bibliothiki on her own, too.
PS: Katherine? The answer is "NO."

Her name seems to be totally original too. I cannot get a single ping on Google for it. That is gonna make her story all the more fun to learn.

Yeah. She's not one of the three Harpies of myth, unless it's an alternate name.Mark N wrote:Her name seems to be totally original too. I cannot get a single ping on Google for it. That is gonna make her story all the more fun to learn.

Oddly, I got two. (Both a Japanese alphabet-soup site.) But yes, this is not a character known to mythology. You meet all sorts of strange and interesting people in the Library.Mark N wrote:Her name seems to be totally original too. I cannot get a single ping on Google for it. There has been some discussion recently about katherine's eyes and the total lack of sclera.
Actually, it is not a total lack ... she just has large pupils.

Hmm. A normal (?) American human and a British/Greek Harpy off on an adventure to the Mexican desert to hunt for possible Mayan/Olmec/Lanthian relics within a Lanthian magitech electronic dead zone....
Works for me.

Not only English, but a schoolgirl; the equivalent of about fifteen or so, i'd say.NOTDilbert wrote:And she jolly well seems to be rathuh English...
She sounds a lot like the Nancy in Swallows & Amazons... (Wow. Back in print. Coming up on its eighty-fifth birthday, i think.)

Duh. It's pointed out on the Facebook comments that the name should be Romanized as Atsalos (Katherine must be nervous). That's not unknown as a surname for humans. It does bear a masculine form, though. So maybe this harpy is really butch...or else humans are really bad at determining harpy gender.

I can't help but read Atealoz's dialogue in a bombastic voice like an over enthused narrator or stage conductor. Or perhaps Billy Mays.
Re: Fellow Explorer 2013-01-31
I wonder if Katherine is really Harpy that she got what she asked for? She might want to pick a differnt partner though. Harpy's were know to be bird brains.

Re: Fellow Explorer 2013-01-31
Huh.
She might also be a Griffon in intermediate form - or possibly as humanoid as they can get; she also seems to have cat marks on her face (amongst all the cute freckles). And fangs.
Harry Potter and the Griffonettes Dormitory. Sorry, it's kinda late....

But the only thing I can find in Greek myth with bird feet is a Harpy. Maybe this is a variation of Harpy or a new creation altogether.

I'm determined to figure out what book that could be, but Google is being surprisingly stubborn.
Hmm...maybe, but griffons are typically feline from the waist down, aren't they?NOTDilbert wrote:She might also be a Griffon in intermediate form - or possibly as humanoid as they can get; she also seems to have cat marks on her face (amongst all the cute freckles). And fangs.
