Ditto - can't definitely recall hearing it since the 70s... I heard it among my cohorts as a boy in Northern Greater Appalachi...

Hawker, Plymouth, or North American? They'd have to avoid the propellers or jet blast, and the car wouldn't have enough seats.
The car had enough seats in Genesis. Word of God.

Ren and Stimpy predated Kricfalusi's 90s cartoons? Hadn't heard that before.

Now I'll be hearing "Happy Happy Joy Joy" in my head all night . . . .

Re: Kidding Me 2018-03-28

The way I’d test this is to stick Daylla in a faraday cage with plenty of insulating material between her and the cage. If her metallic properties are responsible for her being able to pick up signals from the other universe, then a faraday cage would block that, and her awareness would be returned...

Yeah, a lot of family members on both sides wind up with cancer, so I'm probably going to wind up turning into a giant tumor when I'm in my 50s or so. Sweet holy Brigid, I've seen that show too many times myself. (Aunt, grandmother, ex's mother, sister, mother, cousin who shared my given name, et a...

Re: More Stuff

I have read an interesting argument in Chamberlain's defense: That at the time of his policy of appeasement, Britain was in no state to take on Nazi Germany in any case, and it bought time. I don't find this altogether convincing (France had a massive standing army, for one thing), but it's a differ...

Turmeric smells good, and it makes the rice a pretty color. I like it. My dad was taking turmeric capsules and garlic capsules for I'm not sure what. I asked him a couple of times, why not just cook with it? But that would mean cooking rather than eating crap from the dent store. I don't know squat ...

A year or two ago, I read somewhere--maybe here, even--that in the European countries where bicycle transportation has been big all along, vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic are on different levels . Like, there's a curb up from the street to the bike path, and another curb up to the sidewalk....

Two gun shops in two small towns out in the county have been burgled here within the past few months. Seemed to be fairly well planned smash-and-grabs. In the first one, the goods started turning up on the streets in Baltimore. In the most recent, the burglars apparently were teens, and a couple of ...

Very thoughtful exchange here, folks. Too much to comment on point by point, so I'll just make a few observations. My views on firearm ownership are complicated. I grew up in hunting culture, in a Northern Greater Appalachia county with a current population of about 75,000, which is a substantial increase from when I lived there. I did not enjoy hunting myself, and was not good at it, though I was perfectly happ...
