Re: Jenette Bras
This is where I go (since I live in North Texas and I have learned the hazards of online shopping for this kind of thing)...
Loretta's Intimates (http://www.lorettasintimates.com) - Not only do they have pretty bras for sizable bosoms, but they will tailor any bras that fits almost perfectly until it does fit just right...at no extra cost. Can't make it back to the store to pick it up any time soon? They'll ship it to you...at no extra cost. They come into the changing room with you for every bra you try on and then go hunt down the better size (be it up or down a cup or a band width) for that particular bra, AND they educate you about what is really a good fit so you can shop elsewhere if you want.
LOVE these ladies! I got my wedding day froo-froo undergarments from them and had them tailored to fit me and the cut of my dress. It was a great experience. I just wish it didn't cost me $70 per bra to shop there.

I might as well link to a UK shop/website that sells bras for the rest of the alphabet.
http://www.bravissimo.com I've shopped with them before, and it's great (they have pretty things for big boobs)! You just need to make sure you have a clear understanding of any sizing differences that may exist between US and UK bras. I found that discussing my bra size on the phone with someone in their service department was useful (and it's also a good idea to have your measurements in cm since sizes can differ from one designer to the next).
Additionally, Bravissimo has a sister/spin-off store, Pepperberry (http://www.bravissimo.com/pepperberry) that sells clothing designed for women who have larger busts. You can buy based on your actual size (4, 10, 12, whatever) and then choose Curvy, Really Curvy, or Super Curvy based on your bustiness.
No tailoring (or at least not as much)!
Admittedly, the prices on both sites aren't cheap, and the shipping rates may be ugly, but at least it's another option (plus I don't know how many female readers we may have in the UK or other parts of the world where the exchange rate may be better). Heck, I'm usually willing to fork out the cash if I know it's a quality product and I won't have to worry about it not fitting "right" or paying more money later to get it tailored to look better. *shrugs* But that's just me.

Re: Jenette Bras
And here's another nod to Loretta's!
I bought my last bra from them a couple months ago when I realized that my weight loss had progressed enough that my recently re-sized bra no longer was quite right. I only bought one because of the price (and I only changed band size, not cup this time...so I could make the "too big" bra work for the time being as a back-up). My husband nearly choked on it when he realized I walked out of there with one bra at that cost...which is why I've been short on bras while losing weight.
Anyhow, I'd mentioned that excursion and my husband's reaction to it a month ago when I was having lunch with my mother. It was something I mostly shared as an amusing story of how my husband and I are still learning things about each other (I honestly don't know why he thought my bras were as cheap as "normal" busted women's bras). A week ago, I got a package in the mail...from Loretta's. My husband had a minor flip-out thinking that I'd bought a new bra without telling him (or worse...that I'd forgotten I'd bought a new bra). However, it turns out my mother decided that I'd get to have a working set of bras for Christmas. She called Loretta's and asked them to send me the same bra I'd purchased on my last visit, but in two different colors.
The third bra still hasn't arrived, but at least I have two fitting bras to rotate! And it's all thanks to the fact that Loretta's keeps a database of their customers (which includes not only your name and contact info, but your most recent size...what you've purchased from them...AND frequently even what you've shown an interest in buying but did not purchase). Gotta love a great lingerie store!!

Well I can answer your question of why your husband thought the bra would cost roughly the same...Julie wrote:And here's another nod to Loretta's!I bought my last bra from them a couple months ago when I realized that my weight loss had progressed enough that my recently re-sized bra no longer was quite right. You go to a place like Wal-Mart (yes, I know, but this is Guy Logic here), and bras of all different sizes, from the itty-bitty A cups to the fairly sizable double-D cups, are the same price. So, the knee-jerk reaction for a guy is to extrapolate this and assume that all bras are roughly the same price, and that if you pay more, it is either for a higher quality (which is at least quite true) or better customer service (also quite true), while forgetting that the economics of scale are working against the rest of the letters in the alphabet. They see a price jump from $10 at Wal-Mart to $70 and come to the conclusion that it seems... excessive... even for a quality bra from a quality designer.
I know better, my previous relationship was, and my current relationship is, with a woman of ample size, sufficient that finding a proper-fitting one requires finding letters of the alphabet which normally don't go on the Wal-Mart racks. Also, I grew up as a RenFaire brat, I had bellydancers as babysitters growing up, so I happen to know more about women's attire than most straight guys do from personal experience, just in helping them into their outfits (crap, I've got to be on stage in five minutes, hey kid... lace me up, would ya?). As I grew older and my interest became more than merely academic, I did what any nerd would do... I did research. I even found some technical texts which were quite informative.
So yea... spending $70 on a bra? Particularly from a place with such excellent customer service and support? Assuming it was in the budget, I wouldn't blink an eye at it. And if there was a lack of properly fitting bras... I would most certainly not blink an eye at putting it in the budget. Compared to a chiropractor or dealing with assorted pains from having a poorly fitted bra, it's still a better deal.
Let this be a lesson to all guys with busty significant others: the better the bra fits, the less pain she is in at the end of the day, so the happier she is likely to be, and the more likely she is to be able to be in the mood. Besides, a quality bra like that? Is going to last for quite some time. It's an investment which pays... ahem... dividends.

Based on Shneekey's comments about RenFaire, it would also qualify as Costumer Support.Jabberwonky wrote:Gives a whole new meaning to Customer Support.

Well, if I ever wanted to go into politics, I could always say that I have done my best to support the masses. It would be a very uplifting speech. It might even win me the Catholic vote when they hear I make contributions for High Mass. Of course, being a Texan, I am no stranger to broad tracts of... land. Perhaps a case could even be made for me being a carpenter, since I assist in developing shelving. A civil engineer at the least, for ensuring proper maintenance of the support infrastructure.Dave wrote:Based on Shneekey's comments about RenFaire, it would also qualify as Costumer Support.Jabberwonky wrote:Gives a whole new meaning to Customer Support.

It's only fair, after all. I make sure she's got a well-fitted and supportive bra, she makes sure my kilt is up to muster. I do draw the line at buying the batteries for her leaf-blower, though

Shneekey is quite the prolific punster...a real punny guy...his puns go off and have puns, and the resulting offspring are puntastic(don' t ask him to filk either...they' re just as punny...especially not the filking individual one)...I am amazed the pun vault has not hit critical mass...do NOT get into a pungument with him, you will never win...believe me, I have tried, God help me!Julie wrote:LOL! *wipes tears and takes a deep breath* Whew! You guys are the best at making a Monday morning more enjoyable!
Make sure you have a proper fitting bra too, or it WILL break. That nerd owes me at least three at last count.

Yanno how some people have Angels/Devils for a conscience? I have a Dark Elf ShadowKnight and a Half Elf Ranger for mine. The really bad part is when they agree on something.

re-reading some of the older posts in various threads and i came across this one... the comic you REALLY should have tossed into the Pun-Jar should have been this: The Devil's Panties... (it's NOT Satanic Porn, Honest)... um... er... i spent over an hour doing an archive binge to find a strip with one of her convention staples: Kilt Blowing!... but i couldn't find one and post the link to it, sorry...ShneekeyTheLost wrote:Then I call that a job well done.Julie wrote:LOL! *wipes tears and takes a deep breath* Whew! You guys are the best at making a Monday morning more enjoyable!
