Totally off topic here, but one of my favorite time killing games during layovers at busy airports is "Try to find the spy". Last time I was at San Francisco International the game only lasted about 5 seconds. I had no sooner sat down and a group of people came walking down the skyway, 4 rather large uniformed airport police, 2 TSA agents, four rather pissed off looking gentlemen in suits with hearing aids, and two tourists in Hawaiian shirts escorting a little old Asian man in a modest suit and handcuffs--my guess was the guy in handcuffs. . .Jay-Em wrote: Katherine, cooky as she is, is apparently smart, very véry smart. On that note: we stíll do not know whát exactly she did in the airforce. My experience withthose that háve been involved in Intelligence, is that they keep mum about it, ánd that none, NONE of them had even the slightest resemblance with the movie-variations of "secret agents".

That's my new favorite quote...it's a shame I can't hang it on the wall in my office (where I feel like it would do some good, but get me fired).
Also, I think I'm going to agree with zachariah on this one. I suspect the Library's involvement and plans far more than I feel like Brandi's been manipulating anything right now.

As cool as that theory might be, we have the Official Word that she was a mechanic in the Air Force (per what RunningBull pulled from Paul's Facebook and posted here for us).Jay-Em wrote:On that note: we stíll do not know whát exactly she did in the airforce. The "mosquitoes" quote reminds me of a insight made by another webcomic that I read called Freefall. Mosquitoes are really dangerous when you think about it. I wonder if Pablo was thinking along those lines when he had Phix call vampires by that term. http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff2400/fc02322.htm If so, he was being very sly in his foreshadowing department.shadowinthelight wrote:Even "mosquitoes" can do damage.

You are correct in that Julie. However, those in the intelligence field need MOS, or Military Occupation Specialties listed that are benign. A mechanic would be a very good diagnostician. Exactly the kind of brain needed in "intelligence." So depending on whether the "word of god" was just quoting her "cover" MOS or that was her real MOS may depend on how the story goes.Julie wrote:"I've eaten people smarter than you stupid fuckers."

A good line from one of Tom Clancy's novels, is a comment that one of the best things you can hear your opponent say about one of your deep-cover agents is along the lines of "Oh, he's too dumb to be a spy." For "too dumb" you can substitute "too scatterbrained", "too much of a nebbish", and so forth.Jay-Em wrote:On that note: we stíll do not know whát exactly she did in the airforce. The politicians sent them.
Same as that dig in the Dead Sea. Only this bunch is subtle enough to let Kath find what she's looking for so they can suppress it or whatever before killing them.
At least as far as she's concerned.
Given what we know, she's probably just being paranoid. Who wouldn't be a little paranoid in this position though, especially given what she's been through.

The Supernaturals must have the deep pockets most (and perhaps _all_ Earthside) governments would envy, and this would be pocket change for them.
Their greatest concern is secrecy, and money (and perhaps the occasional inexplicable disappearance or two) will buy a lot of that.
Perhaps in the future Paul will enlighten us as to the Supernatural's code of ethics, or at least their politics.

And then there's anaropia, the fixed delusion that you are following someone around intending to do them good anonymously.

Re: Back Off 2013-04-09
I'm of the opposite opinion... i think that The Library is NOT the one that sent them for the simple fact that they arrived in helicopter's... if The Library HAD sent them, it would have poited them into place just like it poits Phix and Nudge around (remember how it did the retrieval of Nudge from the volcano Monica sent her to?) Also, for the vamps to arrive at the airbase that the helo's were stationed out of (which is also well away from the portal site itself at least), all the way from Minneapolis, get them flight ready, AND the physical travel time to the actual site... no, they HAD to leave WELL BEFORE Atsali met Katherine at the threshold of the Library Annex... seeing as how Kath walked into the Annex, met Atsali, got swooshed thru the halls (ran from the Minotaur ) landed in the mineshaft, and walked for a few yards before getting shot out the mineshaft on the cart and then surviving the flooring collapse, and then, JUST when they get really ready to do serious work, the choppers show up?... and all that took probably LESS than 30 MINUTES??!! NOPE, those choppers left the base WELL BEFORE Kat even THOUGHT she was going to GO to the Library, let alone have both the Vamps on-board and launched only AFTER the mineshaft blew up and they were scrambled to find out exactly what the totally unexpected explosion was all about...Nope, not buyin' it... and that "short time-frame" Lily was talking about, hmm... maybe that's the short amount of time that they have available to them before the REAL investigation team shows up and starts asking the hard-to-answer questions of them, like "who the hell are you, and why did you set off that explosion?, etc, etc, etc..." and she was trying to bluff her way into letting them "help" in order to facilitate them "disappearing" the two of them?zachariah wrote:It's pretty sure Brandi did not take a hand in this game. i have had a tiny thought in the back of my mind that has been there nibbling away at my sanity for a while and i think it's time to let it go (the thought, not my sanity. Heck, that's been a losing battle for a long time now ) Anyway: Do you remember when Brandi was all shell-shocked and babbling to Monica about how Shelly didn't need to spend all that time in the Time Forest and also about her work as a nanny? then she said something that set that thought in motion... when she was describing the aftermath of her "collection" for the Chimera... about how she made a deal with the Demon Realm... what if part of that "deal" besides that dimensional travel shield, was to split herself into TWO SEPARATE ENTITIES? the Brandi we know and love is the "good" side of her that "forgot" all the pain and anguish, and the "Director Oduya" is the "evil" side of her is the side that kept those memories and feeling. and that in turn made that copy the cold, calculating and manipulative person needed to run an organization like the Mib... my reasoning is that every time we've seen the Director, i noticed that her eyes are NOTHING like what the Brandi we're used to seeing looks like... they LOOK cold and calculating, not the warm and accepting ones that Brandi has (except for when she was pissed at Bud for the Vimana Cell thing)... and because the Demons are QUANTUM beings they can EXACTLY duplicate Brandi down to the last detail and allow her to be effectively in two places at once, the Director stays in the shadows, running MIB and (as far as we know) keeping the lid on the supernaturals and tracking down any survivors of the Priesthood that killed her, Bud, and Jin... this ALSO ties in with Brandi's statement about if she learns too much, or gets too much information she starts to go all cold and calculating, and that "isn't HER"... Darned Right it isn't: it's The Director instead!!... possibly it's some mental bleed-over from The Director to herself when their individual thought processes are thinking the same things at the same time for too long of a period???

Yes, this. My late grandfather was an "agricultural advisor " in Viet Nam circa 1970, which was not then a quiet region. He never talked much about what he did there; back in the US he was an ordinary, average guy. In Viet Nam he was known around Saigon's US embassy and introduced my uncle to a bunch of CIA guys he knew. And his civilian life gave him a good background to...advise people about agriculture.
So what was he really doing? We may never know.

Re: Back Off 2013-04-09
Scantrontb just made an interesting comment. If we consider the mine as the Minotour lair then Kath and Sali are making a quest and re-enacting Greek myths. This stage is Orpheus. They are going into the underworld after something. To gain entrance and calm down the threat they have Sali's Siren voice instead of playing a harp. Are they going to rescue the Spider Women? Maybe just the dolls? I wonder what other Greek myths they will go through to finish the quest.
