Hmmm. The vase appears to have been left back in the room maybe.
I think Astsi has officially learned life ain't a book.

I won't believe it until we see a body.

And next we see the first glimpse of the new and augmented Kath. I am looking back at what Brandi said about working a plan that may end up with a woman tearing off her skin and seeing it as a foreshadowing of this event. (I am sorry if I can't just accept the idea that Paul would kill off Kath )

Ugh! I hope not. I have actually seen what people (me) look like under their skins and it ain't pretty, even if you discount all the blood.Mark N wrote:And next we see the first glimpse of the new and augmented Kath. Wow. Paul has taken the strip to a new height (or "emotional excursion in some dimension") here. I don't think we've ever seen the "painful loss of youthful innocence" portrayed this vividly in the Wapsiverse before.
Atsali has just had a harsh awakening to adult reality: the world can hand you a situation which is far beyond your control, and it can hurt!

Poor kid - a very young immortal suddenly confronted with mortality.
And, whatever happened to Katherine, Atsali's going to think it's her fault.

De-lurked just to say, given the Spider motif Kat has always had, I kind of imagine something along the lines of this
(very minor nsfw warning: one f-bomb, if you are so concerned)
Which I guess does count as tearing ones own skin off...
And probably back to lurking...

You know, I'm fairly sure it won't happen, but a sudden character death could be an interesting twist for Wapsi. Given the number of immortals and superpowered individuals among the main cast, Kat and Amanda have become rather superfluous (despite Amanda still being one of my personal favorites). If Monica's immortal, noone will let Jin kill herself, and Bud & Brandi & Phix & Nudge & May & Shelly are all basically immortal, it could be interesting to see a non-immortal character die in a somewhat pointless fashion. Bring reality back to Monica or further emphasize the severity of her condition. Her friends will die trying to do what she does, and she will linger on and on and on... and on...
It won't happen, but still. Neat idea. Would just really be mean to the comic's Katherine fans.

Not entirely mean, as she (will have) died heroically. She was always afraid of something out there hurting her, until she wasn't.sonicthunder wrote:You know, I'm fairly sure it won't happen, but a sudden character death could be an interesting twist for Wapsi. Paul has established persistence as a reality in the Wapsiverse, so a dead Katherine just means she meets more of Shelly's relatives before Monica does. And Tezcatlimonica probably needs one final major grounding wire now that the nerd girl facade is revealed for the thin screen it is: Earth is a bauble, spinning in your taloned paw, yours to order as you please. By the bye, your sad little friend is dead.

Re: Hello 2013-02-27
I think it is odd coincidence that Astali was the one in the library available and willing to escort Katherine to the Mesa Verde exit...why was she in such a hurry to shuttle K out of the library before she asked anyone else for help? I think maybe Astali did not have permission to do this, and this whole incident might merely be someone (or something) coming to return Astali to the library...
Re: Hello 2013-02-27
Well, this episode greatly reduces the likelihood that Atsali is Bia (or someone other Power) in disguise. Still wondering about the teleporting vase cradled in the dislocated arm moment, but these tears seem mighty genuine.txmystic wrote:I think it is odd coincidence that Astali was the one in the library available and willing to escort Katherine to the Mesa Verde exit...why was she in such a hurry to shuttle K out of the library before she asked anyone else for help? So some thoughts for today:
Panel 1. So who is Atsali's god?
Panel 2. The Adventure/Home dichotomy always reminds me of a diptych of Norman Rockwell Saturday Evening Post covers, one of a nebbish desk jockey dreaming of a tall ship on the high seas, and the other of a broken pirate lying prone on the deck, fixating on a little cottage.
Panel 3. Give Kath a chance to answer . . . . .
Finally, I think Brandi is unaware of this happening. If she is aware or behind it, Kath is alive, possibly in a tiny, hardy spiderform. The Rube Goldberg/Chuck Jones physics leading to a newbie being buried alive in an old lair of Bia's seems to read as "curveball" to me.
Actually, does Brandi even know Katherine exists?

Re: Hello 2013-02-27
I blame the library for this. Consider:
- Kat wants a bit of adventure, and starts some research about something interesting, where
- She meets EXACTLY the right person entering the library, who
- Takes her to the right portal door meeting her needs, which
- Is booby trapped in such a way that
- Launches the pair of them on a precise trajectory to
- Land in the only survivable soft spot in the area which turns out to be
- EXACTLY what Kat is looking for! (Maybe)
Omniscient, are we much, ancient book depot?

This silence is... ominous...
(There's a odd impulse on the part of some to make Brandi a super-super-chessmaster trope who is controlling all the events in Waspi Square. She may have thousands of years of experience, superhuman intelligence, few human frailties, and a massive organization, but that doesn't mean leaves don't fall off trees unless she plans it. I suspect there's much going on Brandi is unaware of and doesn't control, and that's one of the reasons she and Bud set up the MiB group: For when people do unpredictable things, the unexpected happens, and events blow up... She was DEFINITELY taken by surprise by the revelation her golem body could be reset to near human...)
It is hard to tell what Brandi knows. As the Senior Director, she may know a LOT about Katherine because she's one of Monica's co-workers. But I don't think they've ever met...Yamara wrote:Finally, I think Brandi is unaware of this happening. If she is aware or behind it, Kath is alive, possibly in a tiny, hardy spiderform. Re: Hello 2013-02-27
I would say it is mostly Atsali's fault, but if Kath had thought a bit more, it would not have happened.. BUT Atsali is a siren?? could she have used her 'talents' to lure Kath into an adventure she desperately wanted, and used Kath to escape from her guardian in the library?? (the portal could have been 'locked' to her, so she used Kath as a key??)donoho wrote:It is her fault, isn't it?
Oh yes, and this week is very much adventure film lore... you think the victim is dead and buried, until a hand comes out of the rubble!!
or.. spider Kath to the rescue!!
or.. it's a very 'close up' view of Atsali .. Kath could just be on the above step, sayin "quit it! we gotta find a way out!!"
