I wish i could find that panel from "A Doemain of Her Own" [sic] that had them talking about how the snow probably won't amount to much as they drive past a diamond-shaped sign that says "Foreboding Dialog Next Four Panels" {or words to that close effect]...

Reading this, I flashed on an old neuroscience story of a lab rat wired up to receive a pleasure center stimulation if it pressed a button. It did -- a lot. After a time, the researchers physically moved the rat away from the button and placed it near water and food. It went back to the button. It's last act in life, starving and dehydrated while within a step of food and water, was to press the button one last time.

Dale is fully aware she could do this to someone by accident, much less intentionally.
