From student to MiB in just under five minutes. She's climbing the ladder faster than Spock with rocketboots in the Enterprise elevator shaft.

Scarlet is lucky she isn't classified . . .

Perhaps classified at the legendary BBA (Blabbers Boiled Alive) . . . or Eyes-Only/Destroy by Fire Before Reading . . .

The next question is, did Bud recognize/understand that, or just preemptively classify it on the basis that if you don't understand it, it's dangerous?

Or maybe she's accidentally reverse-engineering the tech of the Calendar Machine...

I'm fluent in technobabble, what this sounds like is a threat to the World Grid. This is talking about the anchor points of the World Grid.

I get the feeling that this particular supply run will not be going to Home Depot. They never keep those sort of items in stock.

Yeah. One time I asked where to find a 100-millicochrane engine and extra warp plasma for a model rocket. Followed their directions and ended up in the parking lot.

While Best Buy DOES keep those in stock, they are WAY too pushy about getting extended warranties.

Oh, that old trick... they point you to the door with the big sign written in Klingon, and don't remember to mention that it translates to "This Way To The Egress".

They only stock their own "house brand". You can never be sure whether it's reliable, or whether it was built by larvae laborers in some dingy little sweats-liquid-methane-shop on Titan and will break down within five millijiffies after the warranty expires.

I've had good results dealing with folks like Grainger and McMaster-Carr. if they stock it, the quality's going to be dependable. However, even with their fairly broad stock of spark-stuff, they don't always have dilithium crystals in the size you need.

And they only stock the common radioisotopes - you have to go to the specialists for anything unusual.

Not like the days when there was a Radioisotope Shack in every strip mall.

Yeah, and then there was that whole fiasco a few hundred years back about some Kelpian dying in a hologram simulator that made dilithium scarcer than toilet paper back in the early 21st century.

...what?

Indeed! It's gotten so much harder to find a good source of Aluminum16 for my Stirling Engine power supply.

Handwavium hyperborate works better.

As long as you watch for the timeslip.

Buy it from a reputable supplier. They refine it well enough to get the thiotimoline content down to under .001%, and timeslip isn't a problem.

Buying it from eBay sellers of uncertain history... well, you may get it cheaply, but you could easily end up in the Cretaceous and you'll have a very difficult time finding a motel room for the night.

Yeah, you have to go to the late Jurassic for decent hotels.

Just don't go to the Benders' place.
