No, I think the ghost boy is very happy as is, no need to take it... Hm, oh? Oh, hm. I am informed the ghost boy would be very happy to help her change.

Are we sure it's a boy?

Looks a lot like a young Barbara.

One of two things is happening here:

1. That is a "reflection" of Barbara from her last visit.

2. That is (or, more scarily, was) one of Barbara's relatives.

Yes, and I acknowledge that.

She's a still . . . because she still looks like Barbara.

The interaction makes this a parallel universe haunting rather than a stone tape haunting because recordings don't interact.

Or, a same-universe time loop haunting.

Some folks posting on the main site have suggested that the young child is Barbara... specifically, Barbara at age 4. Remember the odd incident she reported: http://wapsisquare.com/comic/only-others/

We may be seeing the "other side" of this incident... Mindy may be the "lady with the lantern" that young Barbara met in the old mansion. If Mindy gives the child a berry tart (and Mindy did bring some to this event, in commemoration of Barbara's childhood experience) it'll be strong confirmation of these readers' hunch.

Bud had confirmed that there are no World Grid anchors anywhere near the mansion, and so the rip-between-alternate-timelines sort of anomaly that trapped Daylla doesn't seem very likely here. However, this location is apparently at an intersection of ley lines... maybe wormholes between different moments in a single timeline are possible in such place?

If so it would mean that there are at least three mechanisms for creating "ghosts"... stone-tape recordings of events (memories being replayed), alternate-timeline leakage and crossovers, and wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey folds within an individual timeline.

The wibbley-wobbly timey-wimey stuff would only happen if there was a police box of some sort nearby.
