Port-and-Starboard Tree
This actually IS a single tree - now, at least.
This is the most vivid i've seen the colours, though.

Re: Port-and-Starboard Tree
Every responsible adult should be able to shoot his/her own dogwood, when necessary.

And has saved you from getting bit by a rabid wolf, but was bitten itself in the process...

Hmm.. So, the bark would be well chewed before being released?lake_wrangler wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 6:38 amAnd has saved you from getting bit by a rabid wolf, but was bitten itself in the process...
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
Re: Port-and-Starboard Tree
Its bark is worse than its bite.

I live out near San Francisco, Ca and I cant tell you the number of times people have mentioned how nice the local flowering Magnolias are, only to be brought back to reality by myself when I inform them those are really Dogwoods...

Umm... I don't know... I was actually making a reference to the Disney movie "Old Yeller" (based on a book by the same name).Bookworm wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 2:50 pmHmm.. How do people mix up Dogwood and Magnolia? I mean, the flowers don't look alike, and magnolias have these HUGE dark, glossy leaves.TazManiac wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 5:12 pm I live out near San Francisco, Ca and I cant tell you the number of times people have mentioned how nice the local flowering Magnolias are, only to be brought back to reality by myself when I inform them those are really Dogwoods...

Dogwood, by the way, is a horrible choice for firewood. It burns just fine... but it smells like you're burning feces.

It is if you live in an non-air-conditioned house during the summer in Atlanta and there are three of the things all growing within twenty feet of your bedroom windows...Bookworm wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 2:25 pmYou say that like it's a bad thing. or uncommon.

Re: Port-and-Starboard Tree
I swear, the people 'out here' look at the ornamental Dogwood and just 'know' it's a Magnolia. I'll see if I can get a picture posted of a good example...
Re: Port-and-Starboard Tree
I'd rather have dogwood than sumac. Especially poison sumac.AnotherFairportfan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 9:53 pmIt is if you live in an non-air-conditioned house during the summer in Atlanta and there are three of the things all growing within twenty feet of your bedroom windows...

It was magnolias growing outside my bedroom window, not dogwoods.Bookworm wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 9:20 amI'd rather have dogwood than sumac.
