I hope Reginald is fairly durable in this form.

Shoot first, ask questions later.

Well, now Pickle knows that being home alone is far less scary than being home not alone.

On the other hand, this won't be the first time she's killed someone, so whatevs.

Well, at least she's not at "Shoot twice and forget the questions"!

OK, that went well.

Reg, you should have covered your eyes. Both to let Castela know you weren't intentionally peeping at her, and also so you didn't see the hurt that was coming...

(Digit has a blank face because spiders don't have facial muscles and so she doesn't know how to make her now human face move. Reginald is having no trouble smiling and making complex expressions. This reinforces the idea he is a Fae who was disguised as a bug, and not a bug who has suddenly become a hunky guy.)

At least it was just a punch. Could have been a lot worse, considering she was ready to start plasma-blasting a few minutes before.

I feel for the poor guy, he tried to smile so he appeared non-threatening but guess she didn't buy it. Pickle does have an impressive muscularity for her age. A lot of pro fighters wished they were that well defined. Also i notice that it doesn't look like he went through the wall completely at second glance, more like embedded in it.

Is her outraged reaction just a learned response or do plants just naturally get upset when you see them naked?

Cricket has said that the scientists who created Pickle had made her as a "blend of thorn plants".

Perhaps they included some Mimosa pudica in the generic mix?

Actually, this is part of a blackthorn mating ritual. First, the female blackthorn screams, then she strikes her suitor to test his suitability as a mate. Afterwards, she runs to her den, sounding her call for him to follow. If the male is not intimidated by her show of strength, he will pursue her to her den.

After that, who knows what happens.

Mmm . . . that's more of an embarrassed grin, and and I think Pickle didn't pick up the overtone of embarrassment.

If he knows what she did to another fae when she was just a little Whatsit, then he may be feeling more than just embarrassment. At least in the human form he doesn't have any wings for her to pull off. . .just other things instead.

Which probably went into hiding at the thought.

Not if he's Pickle's age . . . Just being close enough to a female is enough at that age.
