Maybe you could dig up Bobby "Boris" Pickett to get a jolt off his electrode?

It seems as if Castela is not the only wielder-of-snark in her school class.

I dunno, I still get the vibe that Cass is closer to M than Shel.
And what is it about lightning that intrigues her so? Is that the final ingredient, that turned her from "howse pwant" to "cute cuddly li'l thornbush"?

This is about the right time in their maturation for their snark to be coming in . . . and Castela, at least, has received expert instruction (by example).
. . .
I remember being that age.

I think, maybe... it gives her a sense of place and belonging.
Castela's unique... as far as we know she's the only Whatsit in existence. She was
made, not born... and she was specifically designed as a weapon-system. She wields lightning-like powers, and she's apparently immune to damage by lightning or similar forces. Poetically she could be said to be a "child of lightning" herself... it's part of her nature. And, there's so much a part of that nature that she doesn't understand yet... she hasn't really learned (or chosen) her true place in the scheme of things. She loves her family, and she has a secure place there (even if she's scared of losing it to change)... but Kath and Atsali and Gra'ma Lily aren't like her. She's
different... and that's often tough for kids to process.
So, sitting up on the top of the building, watching a good storm, seeing lightning dance through the clouds and strike the ground (or buildings, or her!)... that may be very comforting for her. "Yes," she can muse to herself, "that's a bit like me. I'm like that... and that's natural, and powerful. Maybe I'm not so weird after all. The clouds don't mind if I
ZOT something - they're doing it themselves all the time. And being different... that's OK, that's good... I like my friends, but I'm the only one who can be up here like this. This is part of who I am."
Besides... this lets her draw on such great material to collect her own personal retro mix-tape. She can segue from The Drifters
♬ Up On The Roof♬ to Lou Christie
♬ Lightning Striking Again ♬ and maybe even into a bit of early Fleetwood Mac
♬ Seems like a dream... they've got you ionized... ♬

The finger in the light socket might not be a bad idea for her

I've heard of diving in shorts, but she'd be shorting out after a dive.

I wonder how well Castela conducts electricity? We already saw that her sister apparently does so fairly well.

Or maybe it has some calming pharmaceutical effect on her, like white lightning.
Whatever the reason, it will probably be some shocking revelation for later in the story.
