You know?, it's funny but (unlike somebody else) I like the super-massive physical aspect in this character.

It's by no means my default desire, but many tastes & flavours make up the World and Xenophilia keeps things 'interesting', to say the least...

I like that shes buff & scary and yet comes across as a bit of a girly-girl at the same time...

She said the bad "D" word! She's REALLY peeved off now!

Considering all the races/species of the various "mythical" people, I'm just wondering how they all keep going. Yes, some of them are created in non-sexual manners, but lots of them do it the old-fashioned way, and that requires a large enough population to maintain a viable breeding stock.

Heh. In Lois Bujold's novel Komarr, Miles Vorkosigan and a Vor lady (eventually to be his wife, a book or two later) fall off a low bridge into a rather muddy pond.

She says (with feeling) "Drat!"

Miles says "Is it possible you're a touch over-socialised?"

Breeding population size depends on how well their genetics can handle inbreeding. For humans, the minimum breeding population (assuming for mostly monogamy) to maintain healthy genetic diversity, there should be 200 unrelated individuals in a 50:50 m:f split. That'd last for at least 10 or so generations.

Vaguely remember a Star Trek NG episode where two somewhat related colonies had to merge. One was of technological clones, the other an agrarian society. The genetic variance solution was something like every woman had 5 husbands, every man had 3 wives, and crank out at least 8 children, for the next six generations. Something like that.

I imagine it could even keep track of each individual's genome, and rate the risk of any given pairing resulting in a lethal or crippling generic illness in any children born to the couple. Or, perhaps, resulting in a child whose very nature could tear down Civilization itself.

(and that may be the most obscure SF reference I've ever made here. Amazing story, written long ago, by an author better known by a different name and profession. Genetics, time travel, reincarnation, fate, atomic power and earthquake and war. I suspect AFF may recognize it... anybody else?)

I've always found ST approach to genetics terribly flawed. With the technology at their disposal, identifying and fixing genetic problems should be easy, even if they only had 2 people to start with.

Yeah, but they had a lot of restrictions against that, because of the gene wars. Remember Khan? That's why they won't take any chances.

(Though I have no idea if they fix genetic diseases on the fly.)
