So, here we are.
Looks as if Nadette's cage is being co-operatively rattled.

Holy smuckers! She finally has a last name!

Hmmm. Here, I think, we see one of the great limitations of being a Seer. Seers are used to being able to See truth, but they cannot necessarily see their own futures.
I think Nadette has just found it very disturbing to have her own (possible) future laid out for her so starkly.

Indeed. We can only hope that she and Atsali don't get
too tied up in questing for a black orchid.

Miss Alger isn't giving the best impression of herself by trying to push like this. What if Nadette was, in fact, perfectly happy with taking over her mother's business? What if her sister had her own plans cause it seemed that Nadette would be settling into that in time?
There might be good intentions but given the girl is a Seer it makes me suspicious.

Nadette is being pressured, according to Ms. Alger. Sounds like Mama Starr has things under
too much control.

Mom and Ms Alger are conspiring together to make Nadette get off the dime, i suspect.
To make her actually take some action of her own choosing.

That's sorta how it feels to me. "OK, kid, you
can just drift among and take the easy way out if you wish... but realize that there's a big price to pay if you surrender your fate and future to other people. Consider what you'll be giving up."
I wonder if we're seeing something a bit analogous to the behavior of bears here?
A mother bear will usually drive her cubs away once they are mature and educated enough to survive independently (about a year and a half in the case of black bears). She'll often tolerate some limited sharing of territory with her daughters, but her sons will usually leave the area entirely.
Possibly ursamorphs : bears :: humans : chimps, although that's certainly oversimplifying things.

If Nad' is fine following in her mother's pawprints, then Ms. Alger's psychological judo will have no effect and is just a waste of time. If she's never thought, "Hey. What do *I* want to do with my life?", this could set off all sorts of mental fireworks and lead to interesting consequences.

And I thought Gadenuyva was a perfectly serviceable name...
Also, our Miss Alger seems to be using reverse psychology on our young Ursamorph...

Well, SOMEBODY on here named her Ursinia, but since the last name was tossed out into the garbage...

Pardon me, but I can't recall--have we ever actually seen Mama Starr? Was she the one sitting in a chair that was too soft and eating from a medium-sized bowl that was too cold?

Interesting indeed. Much better than the cliche situation that Nadette might find herself in someday, if she simply floats among and lives off of the family's wealth.
(An embearrassment of riches, of course.)

There are people would would kill to be in Miss Star's position, and Ms. Alger is packaging the Idea like it's a terminal disease. This makes me suspicious of her. Ms. Alger is now on my list of probable bad guys.

...?... I thought Gadenuyva was a result of a conversation with Paul himself...? was that one of us that came up with it?

Was she at the Emergency Room waiting area?
Yeah - in the center. No tag, but that's gotta be Nadette and Berdine's mom.

The teacher is playing with fire here.
First off, if any teacher had done any such thing to me while I was in high school, the VERY best response to expect would have been a snarky "Very good, that will be all, miss Potts." and watch as it backfires completely. Sure, it'd burn the rest of my life away, but who cares about that when you've got a teacher blatantly trying to manipulate me? I was an arrogant snot back then, most teens are.
Second off, mommy is a wealthy and influential person, a high school teacher is... neither of these things. Does she really want to get into a pissing match over Nadette's future? Because that's not gonna end well if she gets the teacher blackballed.
Third off, there's some kind of disconnect here. She owns a construction company, yet people are assuming 'one percenter', and in my experience, that's simply not the case for most construction companies. They barely stay afloat, particularly these days. Unless she's got like a good chunk of city and state contracts sewn up, the industry is pretty notoriously unstable.
I dunno, that teacher just really rubs me the wrong way.
