I kinda think of it like, giving us something that so many things don't.Alkarii wrote:What I mean about there being so many lesbians that it's getting annoying, is that it's becoming cliché. It's almost like it's becoming a teenaged boy's fantasy: Lots of females, most of them extra top heavy, and a higher than usual probability to get naughty with other girls.
Granted, I don't have any problems with lesbianism (I'd prove it, but may actually cause a ton of trouble, so I won't), it's just that it's becoming much too overused, and the comic's main focus has shifted a lot. I used to see a fairly diverse set of characters, but now it focuses almost entirely on Kath, Atsali, and Castela. Which is fine, don't get me wrong. But of those three, two are old enough (disregarding for a moment that Castela has only just been made aware of her real age), two are in same-sex relationships.
Though, for all I know, Kath may actually end up in a poly relationship with that faun and a guy (or two, who knows). That'd be something new and different, though it could become hard to keep track of everyone and everything.
Seriously, I forget a LOT of the side stuff. Like the mermaids, or that teacher who told the student she had to give warning that she was running through the halls. But I remember that Shelly plays bass for Fermented Banana...
Sounds as if you are approaching an FASEG event.GlytchMeister wrote:Ok, y'know what, I'm vacillating on this topic. Wapsi Square might be filling a void, but then again, I'm swinging between that viewpoint and the "Wapsi Square could stand to be more representitive of the diversity of the IRL population"
Can't really decide on one or the other. It's like two equally virtuous purposes, but they both have flaws in equal intensity and number.
I is are confuzzled.
If that were the case, what is Atsali doing looking at it? She'd underaged!!! Atsali is a senior in high school . . . do you really think she doesn't have some kind of access to porn if she wants it?DilyV wrote:If that were the case, what is Atsali doing looking at it? She'd underaged!!! LOL

Well at least I now have a good word for it.Dave wrote:You is afflicted with antinomy.GlytchMeister wrote:Can't really decide on one or the other. It's like two equally virtuous purposes, but they both have flaws in equal intensity and number.

I guess it depends on if you're getting your diversity kicks by going through a bunch of comics that each have a different focus or if you want one comic with no sociopolitical focus (kind of an unattainable ideal I would think, that's a LOT of ground to cover and everyone has bias, so the author would have to counteract theirs), or at least very few comics that cover a broader range of characters.Alkarii wrote:Well, see... When the same thing is repeated for so many characters, the effect isn't as great anymore. It kind of cheapens it, if that makes any sense. While the cast of any work of fiction should have some common ground or common traits, too many things in common means that there is less that sets them apart. Quirks are part of what makes a character interesting.
Think of the characters as ice cream. You can either have one brand that has a ton of different flavors, or you can go with the same flavor, getting variety only from the different brands making that one flavor. The recipe will differ, of course, but not by much.
