Hmmm. Sounds like the Sage of the Time Forest Knows Something.

So, does Shelly somehow know a lot about Monica's situation that we do not, or is she incredibly and dangerously far off-target? Ignoring screaming seems a bit much, and I can't recall anything in the interactions between these two which would really support Shelly being so blase about Monica's distress.

Yup. That's definitely the "knows something" look. I've seen it a million times (and probably given it a million more). As for what's happening, I have theories, but now is not the time for them (read: "I feel like being irritating right now").

I'm gonna go with Shelly knows slot more than we do. That look says she's been expecting this.

And before anyone says it, this isn't out of the blue. There's been a ton of foreshadowing..

Now we know that Shelly knows far more than she has been sharing. I am thinking that Nudge telling Monica that she was going to report her dead was to set off Euryale's gaze and cause this reaction with Shelly's knowledge if not instructions. But that is just me (and how I see foreshadowing like the look on Nudges face when she said she was going to just tell Phix that Monica was dead).

I don't think it's just a Fire Gaze. She seems to be exhaling the sort of hypergolic cloud that usually requires eating at least three double-garlic-and-habanero calzones in a single sitting. She may need to re-tile the floor at the same time she re-papers the walls.

If Shelly knows what's going on (or worse, she helped set this up), she's a huge hypocrite. It wasn't that long ago she was yelling at a certain sphinx for secretly meddling in her life, even something as good for her as a relationship with Justin.

Not a hypocrite, she did not set up Monica with her abilities or meddle in her life. She just knows that somethings cannot be told to Monica, they must be experienced for her to accept them (Monica has shown that she does have a rather thick skull for a scientist after all and it is better that she learns about them like this than while in bed with her boyfriend (burning flesh anyone)).
