...Methinks we're about to get some background on that "little kid"...

(EDIT for those who were wondering what I was talking about: )
"I was livin' in a non-para neighborhood. I – I didn't really have any friend, but there was a few kids that I saw around. And, there was this little kid, maybe three years old. I found out later that he only had a mom. She was probably not much older than us now. And her little kid would leave his home all dirty. We would call him 'Dirtball' and push him down the hill. We'd yell, chase, and hit him until he cried. I don't know why we did that to him."

Is Atsali in there too?

And Cricket?

. . .

It's a sign of The End Times!(TM)

Hmmm . . . I wonder why the original teacher is missing . . .

And are we about to get a reprise of the Scarlet/Timmy/Castel dynamic?

Yeah, a teacher gone suddenly missing from a school for paranormal kids isn't suspicious at all!

The possibilities are intriguing. The reason might be the lead-in to the Next Big Adventure by the Scooby Gang.
  • S/he might have been kidnapped...
  • or talked sassy to a Sphinx, and was invited to (be) lunch...
  • or might have stepped through the wrong portal-door, and ended up in Terre Haute and is in need of immediate rescue...
  • or isn't missing at all, but was asked to take a few days off so that an attractive substitute could be planted in the classroom and used to lure a gang of attractive young female students into a life of desperate horror (I'm thinking church socials, monthly pot-luck dinners featuring orange jelly with marshmallows, and bingo every Sunday)...
  • or might just be naturally peripatetic.

A stunningly handsome young male teacher in a classroom of impressionable young teen girls.

This will go well. :)

The classroom looks to be set up for science labs. Perhaps this is all part of a biology experiment.

Could be Mr. Peterson's final exam . . . a stress test.

And it doesn't look like Devyn or Abby has grown very much in the last two years, though apparently Alexis has . . .

Personally, I thought the first panel had Alexis walking towards her desk, while Devyn was already sitting. In the second one, Abbie has had time to come over*, and they're probably now standing.

* Implied by Devyn's statement, that Abbie is also there, which would be unnecessary if Abbie had been next to Devyn the whole time.

Of course, I could also be wrong, and Alexis really shot up, compared to the other two.

But after a slight search, I find that Alexis was already taller than Devyn a while back... And considering that girls typically reach their adult height sooner than boys, they may have already peaked before we met them, and their heights has remained more or less the same since.

[Edit]
Today's comic confirms that Alexis is indeed still taller than the other two, and they were all standing, all along (since no one had taken a seat, yet)... But my theory that Abbie was not immediately next to Devyn is probably still correct, because Devyn would not have had to mention it, had Alexis been able to see Abbie next to Devyn.
