Unabashed Self-Promotion

Post by AnotherFairportfan »

Baen Books, my brother's publisher, has issued a "20th Anniversary Edition" of David Drake's SF war novel, Redliners.

Redliners is the book that, he realised after he finished writing it, finally exorcised the ghosts of the worst of Drake's Viet Nam PTSD after twenty-five years.

It's a book about what society owes soldier and veterans, and what it so often doesn't give them.

In honour of the 20th Edition, i have revised and expanded my Amazon review.  I commend it to your attention.

Drake is a good author. Sure, his characters tend to be cardboard cutouts and caricatures at times, but the action is good, and the feels are real. Which is why when you pair him with someone like, say, S.M. Sterling, you get something like Raj Whitehall (although we won't discuss the spinoff books).

Hammer's Slammers is also a good series for military sci-fi, and also by David Drake. Entirely worth checking out.

I take exception with your thread's title!

Shouldn't it be something like "Unabashed self's brother promotion"? :P

Well, no, because David Drake isn't his brother, he just has the same publisher.

I wasn't sure, because I couldn't remember his brother's name. I almost proposed two variants, to cover that eventuality, but decided not to.

Knowing now that that's the case, shouldn't it be "Unabashed self's brother's publisher's promotion"?

Admittedly, it does get kind of lengthy, by then... :P

No, because i'm pushing my review, which, if you go from it and buy the book, makes me money.

Move over, Sarge, this guy's the one who needs to strike it rich!
(With or without the subsequent move to Beverly Hills...)

All funning aside, I can see why you would want to spread the word.

Apparently, the net is not always the get-rich-quick paradise some people wanted us to think it was... Who knew.

I used to do a lot better when i was in the Top 100 Amazon reviewers, but then i just sort of lost interest in writing reviews...

Yeah, see, I was thinking more along the lines of canned chicken, cheap bulk rice, peanut butter, oatmeal...

One and change, if you catch the Senior Early Bird special -- 2pm-4pm weekdays, 7.95 + tax, includes drink. (And if you roll in at 3:45, the evening sirloins are ready by the time you finish your salad.)

I know that doesn't help you. Glytch, but there are a few of us whose kitchen consists of a microwave and a college dorm icebox.

A little backpacking stove and a George Foreman grill come in mighty handy. If you have the time, you can look up ways to fill Coleman containers with propane from a normal propane tank. Cheaper that way.

That they do. I recall going to get "white gas" for the camp stove, back when "regular" gasoline was laced with tetraethyl lead to control knocking.

Ex-girlfriend helping out-of-work musician move, surveying kitchen cabinets:

"When was this last time you ate anything besides ramen?"

"I dunno - when was the last sale on canned soup?"

I like to hit Golden Corral maybe once a month on a Friday or Saturday evening, when they also have stuff like prime rib carved to order.
