The proper term is "dropping the transmission" (or tranny).

When you shift gears too quickly, you risk grinding your transmission into uselessness. Pablo has done the whiplash-like shifts/mood changes so much, we call it "dropping the tranny".

Monica, we've been told, was clumsy.

One suspects that the Jaguar Girl/Phoenix/etc qualities she has taken on mitigate that at least a bit.
