Fecal matter has become authentically factual.

Leave severed heads on the floor of the senate... yeah... that'll get their attention...

Terror is also a form of communication.

Of course, sometimes it communicates "We can't live with these people" . . .

A war in the shadows. Lovely.

'Shadow Government'...? hm... sounds damn familiar... over funded, under trained, kill without question, never answer for their actions, seldom get the results or non-recognition they desire... yea, I think I know these fletchwads...

I was more thinking, "Let me explain this to you in terms I think you might understand..."

And they don't learn from history. Betrayal and backstabbing: superficially attractive and profitable in the short run, but extremely prone to backfire and blow up in your face in the long run.

The people you betray tend to have very long memories.

If, indeed, this is when Atsali was about three or four, this was about sometime in 2004 - about the same time we first learned that Monica could speak glyph.

And Kukulcan's first (and only) appearance in the strip.

A treaty, you say? Hmmmm... that may have come up before, somewhere. I wonder if there will be a trial?

Jury selection, anyone?

The lady doing most of the speaking today... her pupils remind me a bit of how Jin's have been portrayed.

Ophidian para of some sort? Perhaps a Naga?

That quiet one in the middle concerns me.

Watch out for the quiet ones.

Actually, she sort of reminds me of one of my characters . . .

If so, definitely don't threaten her family! (Oddly, threatening her is okay . . . she's used to that.)

Of course, the expression is wrong. And she's not cuddling Atsali. She's very big on cuddles.

I don't think so - Jin's have been shown as slits in an eye with no apparent iris.

The woman with the glasses is shown with similar eyes.

Actually, looking at her in the first panel, i was thinking another siren. Maybe they tend to this sort of work, like vampires tend toward cop work?

=====================

It's not nearly as bad as i feared. At least we were spared Atsali making the discovery and waiting for help with her mother's body.

====================

Depleted uranium penetrators explains how they punched through a safe room door.

She reminds me of the coach at Gryphon High

Matt Helm aways said that the Other Side knew exactly who and where he was, and if they came to kill him, he'd make it as expensive as he could, but it'd be just business.

Mess with his loved ones ...

I'm gonna have to agree with their boss.

Though, that could just provoke another splinter group and change the minds of some of them.

Well, considering that it looks as if Atsali is about three here, and that Castela is ten years younger than she is, SOMEone apparently survives to continue the project.

I think the operative phrase in the dialog is "OTHER survivor", meaning Leucoisa probably survived so that we still have the happy 8YO Atsali in the pinups.

I'm reading his comment as meaning "the blackthorn" survived in its 'nursery' and 'Sali is the other survivor.

What no one's commented on yet, is that the Incubus was named Walter. Walter? Oy.
And yep, I theorized earlier that this could involve Castella, even with the age difference, if she was in 'seed' form. And the para cops just said the Blackthorn was in her nursery! Wow, both the littles were in safe rooms...
Hmm. So, Atsali to orphanage. I'd say lab is still running, with or without shadow government. Castella apparently spends a long while developing, as seed or infant or both. Fast forward a few years, and Castella is at the orphanage.
I remember Castella thinking Fae had killed her 'parents' (scientists?) , and Cricket explaining that the fae were looking out for her (while getting Godzilla stomped by Castella in the lunch room).
I wonder how much Atsali knows about how and why her parents died.
I can see not telling much to ToddlerSiren, but now that she's older, either she asks questions, or someone decides it's time she knows.
Damn, those two girls were fated to be sisters.
I really hope one of these days Paul will draw a family portrait of little Atsali and both her parents.
