NECCO is actually an acronym: New England Confectionery COmpany.Wikipedia wrote:Mary Jane is a peanut butter and molasses flavored taffy-type candy with peanut butter in the center. Originally made in 1914 by The Charles N. Miller Co., and later by Stark Candy Co., it is now manufactured by Necco.
And all quite good, actually. The factory where they were made for many years is about a half-mile from my office in Cambridge. They are, like Moxie, perhaps a bit of an acquired taste, as if they've been on the shelf for a while they tend to be as hard as shoe leather.AmriloJim wrote:NECCO is actually an acronym: New England Confectionery Company.Wikipedia wrote:Mary Jane is a peanut butter and molasses flavored taffy-type candy with peanut butter in the center. He was with Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra, but didn't really have a big part in the proceedings...Dave wrote:Gisaultees, hmmm? The only time we've heard that name was when Shellynx mentioned him (or her) to Shelly-1 in the Time Forest. A great adventurer, and apparently a war-leader of some sort. Known to the paras, but forgotten by mundanes (maybe unsurprising... 6000 years or more is quite a while).
Any bets how many more years it will be, before we learn anything more about Gisaultees, the Durinni labyrinth, or the Fallen Kingdom?
Grew up with Mary Jane candy and NECCO Wafers back in the 1960s. If you've got any loose fillings in your teeth, a Mary Jane will yank it right out for you, no problem. Do they still make NECCO Wafers?AmriloJim wrote:NECCO is actually an acronym: New England Confectionery COmpany.Wikipedia wrote:Mary Jane is a peanut butter and molasses flavored taffy-type candy with peanut butter in the center. Ohyeah. I still see them at the grocery. Loved those things when I was a kid. Come to think of it, I need to pick up a pack of them when I do my shopping.Graymalkin wrote: Grew up with Mary Jane candy and NECCO Wafers back in the 1960s. Imagine that you are a hard core Star Trek fanboy/fangirl, and someone comes up to you and says , "So you and my sis are doing a Star Wars themed Halloween", What face would YOU make? (I think that is her "Et tu Brute?" face).Julie wrote:That's not the face I'd expect Atsali to greet Berdine with...

They had to change the sizing because they could bypass a toll booth collector because the size and weight was equal to quarters.Graymalkin wrote:Grew up with Mary Jane candy and NECCO Wafers back in the 1960s. She may be able to morph into any shape, but there's still some major trickery going on with her spine there.DilyV wrote:Holy crap Berdine!!!! Little Bo Peep? I think not!
