Yeah. Devyn is going to be extra-careful, as she grows up, about things like getting angry, and drinking, and getting the hiccoughs, and... well, pretty much everything.

Combine that sort of power over matter with profound clinical depression and projective empathy (or whatever that mojo actually is) and... hmm. Her life is going to be interesting for as long as the local civilization manages to survive.

Having that much power may be part of why she feels such social isolation. She's a freshman, she's lonely, she's been subject to bullying and hates being bullied... and with that much power she could very easily turn into the very thing she hates and become a bullying leader herself.

She, and Alsali, and Jessie all do have a lot in common, don't they? Each of them is fighting to avoid becoming the worst of what her inherited nature would dictate.

Devyn might be taking after her family too much.

On the one hand, Devyn has just demonstrated considerable power, AND that she doesn't like being condescended to. And has a mean streak.

On the other, she scared Connie. Conscience, an elemental who can beat the snot out of a Titan, scares Sphinxes, and the full extent of whose power WE and SHE do not know. AND who is drunk, I'd point out. Devyn may be able to call on the ocean, but that doesn't mean she can trump Connie if Connie gets angry.

Let's hope they both deal with this calmly.

I agree. I think Devyn is screwing with Connie (what teenager doesn't like to mess with the perceived authority figure?), and it is very amusing how well she's pulling Connie's strings.
